Dispute Resolution:

submit a 1,000 word reflection in the style of a LinkedIn post or Blog post on your experience of
completing this programme including your learning from hearing the experience of a US
commercial mediator and arbitrator.

one paragraph reflecting on what else you learned from Sasha Philip's session on Arbitration
(November 2022). The overall reflection will include:

I have just completed Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and Careers in Arbitration Virtual Experience
Programme, which can be found on Forage. I believe that it is extremely useful for providing an
insight on the work that has to be done by people working in the area of dispute resolution, and also
for people who feel like they would like to pursue a career in this area in the future.

The virtual experience programme was divided into three different tasks: to draft a dispute
resolution clause to reflect commercial and strategic objectives, to advise a party on dispute
resolution options and assist them with the selection of an arbitrator and lastly, to prepare a list of
procedural and substantive issues that arise during a dispute. The three given tasks quickly grew in
complexity as I further delved into the work.

The first task which had to be completed was the easiest yet the most insightful in my opinion. This
is due to the fact that I was required to read through the UNICITRAL Arbitration Rules (2010), which
clearly depict all the key aspects of arbitration, alongside the exact procedure and the rules of it,
which must be followed when arbitration is the method of dispute resolution that is chosen by
parties. The fact that I had to read this document simply eased me into the second task, as this also
revolved around the area of arbitration. The third task is the one which I found to be the most
challenging out of all three required to complete, due to the fact that I found it difficult to
differentiate between procedural and substantive issues for a while. Therefore, I had to do some
outside research for this which allowed me to get a better understanding on both of these.

This Virtual Programme allowed me to learn a wide variety of things which will definitely be useful to
me in my future career. One key thing which it taught me, which is crucial for all law students to
know is to adhere to structures required to be used when drafting or writing documents. For
example, in task one, I had to produce a memorandum and also to draft an arbitration agreement. It
is central to
