Kenya's Lake Baringo is experiencing rising water levels due to climate change, which has led to increases in hippo and crocodile populations that are attacking local fishermen. One fisherman had his leg ripped off by a hippo in 2018. The rising waters are also flooding buildings and communities near the lake. The lake is becoming more dangerous for local residents due to conflicts with the growing hippo and crocodile populations.

With Climate Change taking a great toll, to many countries,
Kenya was one of which to fall victim. Lake Baringo, in Kenya’s rift valley, is one of the countries’ biggest freshwater lakes. Popular among the fishermen, their boats are usually found scattered around the lake as the sun casts it’s rays on the waters. However, over the many past years, great disaster unfolds. The water levels are gradually increasing. Creating a disaster for a list of things. Yet, arguably, a few of the most important points of this disaster is the unbelievable burst of the population of crocodiles and hippos. Not only this, but, the steadily increasing water levels are also instructing the area for buildings and community possessions. With these points, Lake Baringo is becoming ever so dangerous. Many incidents occur because of the increase of crocodiles and hippos such as, Joseph Atuma’s incident where one evening of 2018, a hippo tore through his canoe, ripping part of his left leg off. He then stated that he had been fishing in Lake Baringo since the age of 5, and despite a few encounters with both crocodiles and hippos, he was never attacked until then.
