Objective Structured Clinical Examination in Nursing Students.

This study by Chabrera, et al. (2023) focuses on the adoption of a new instrument in assessing

clinical competencies of a nursing student utilizing Objective Structured Clinical Examination

(OSCE). Their aim is to develop OSCE by analyzing the validity and reliability in nursing

curriculum and to measure self-assessment, stress and satisfaction. In order to measure the study,

they utilized the observational validation of the study which is divided it into two phases: the

design and development of OSCE and validity and reliability analysis. A total of 118 Nursing

Students participated in the study and they were given ten different scenarios incorporated with

six competencies as a component to be extracted from the curriculum. As a result of the study,

the students gave a higher point in Satisfaction and Stress then lowest score were obtained in

Self-assessment. This study will give a valid and reliable method of assessment for our future

nurses and generations. The significance of this study will help our future nurses in maintaining

high standard level of competencies and will serve as an effective tool in research studies related

to clinical simulations.
Gebreheat, G., Teame, H., and Costa, E. (2023). The Impact of Transformational Leadership

Style on Nurses’ Job Satisfaction: An Integrative Review.

This study by Gebreheat, et al. (2023) focuses on the impact of different leadership styles that

affects nurses’ job satisfaction in work environment and in quality of care provided by the

nurses. Their study aims to assess the hospital nurses on job satisfaction in to different

transformational leadership style. The study utilizes Whittemore and Knafl’s framework which is

an integrative review of different comprehensive literatures from PubMed, MEDLINE,

CINAHL, Web of science, Research4Life, APA PsychInfo, and other studies from different

sources of grey literature and reference list of articles were included. As a baseline basis for

inclusion, the eligibility of all English articles related to the study should be published between

the years of 2012 – 2023. As a result of the study, a total of seventeen articles were included and

sixteen of them are cross-sectional studies and one is mixed. They conducted this study in two or

more healthcare settings with a total of 5841 nurses were included and majority of the articles

that were included reported to have a positive influence on nurses’ job satisfaction about

transformation leadership. The study also reports a positive impact on nurses to stay at work,

quality of care, and patient outcomes.

This study provides a clearer path in enhancing the satisfaction of nurses with their job. The

application of transformational leadership to our healthcare system or healthcare setting can

boost the satisfaction of our staff nurses on their respective job, provide a conducive working

environment and promote quality of care.


Bsharat, F. (2023). Stress and Resilience of Nursing Students in Clinical Training During the

COVID-19 Pandemic: Palestinian Perspective.

The study of Bsharat, et al. (2023) described stress a factor in reducing the capacity of nursing

students in critical-thinking, decision making, lower academic performance, and limits success.

This outbreak caused by COVID-19 tends the students to adapt new virtual learning settings

which added more stress to their academic responsibilities. Her study aims to assess the nursing

students with their perceived stress and resilience to clinical practice during pandemic of

COVID-19. This study has a total participant of 315 nursing students and was cross-sectionally

studied. In order to collect data, the method that the author utilized was divided into two different

scales named as the Perceived Stress Scale and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale. As a

result of the analysis, the students gave a higher mean score on stress and moderate mean score

on resilience. This study also implicates that the nursing students stress and resilience has a weak

and negative relationship. In addition to the analysis of the study, the result shows a significant

difference between stress and gender, study year level and age. The author concluded that during

pandemic days of COVID-19 the nursing students has a higher stress level than resilience in

clinical training.

This study is very helpful in identifying factors that affects our future nurses. It emphasizes stress

perceived by the students while adopting to the new virtual learning program or setting tends to

be stressful for them. Engaging our nursing students into different trainings or programs which

strengthens their resiliency and interpersonal characteristics. The writing in this article by the

author is clear and understandable.
