Transversal – this is a line that cuts other lines.

(UV)
Parallel lines – these go in the same direction and never touch. (WX and XZ)

In this diagram the shaded angles are the same as each other and the unshaded
angles are the same size as each other. There are several relations that can help
us see why.
Corresponding angles – these angles share similar locations and are the same
size.
(e.g., a and e, b and f, c and g, d and h)

Alternate exterior angles – these

angles are on opposite sides of the
transversal and on the ‘outside’ of the
parallel lines. These angles are the
same size. (e.g. a and h, c and f)
Alternate interior angles – these angles are on opposite sides of the transversal
and on the ‘inside’ of the parallel lines. These angles are the same size.
(e.g. b and g, d and e)

Co-interior angles – these are angles on the same side of the transversal line
and between the two parallel lines. These are NOT the same size, but they add
up to 180°.(e.g. b and e, d and g)

Supplementary angles – where two straight lines cross, angles on the same
side of either line must add up to 180°.(e.g. a and h, c and f)
Vertically opposite angles – where
two straight lines cross, angles that
are on opposite sides of both lines
will be the same size.
(e.g., a and h, c and f)
