Good afternoon!

I am Kartikey Jandial, this is Daksh Chawla, and that is Aditya Ohri today we will be
interviewing Mr. Jhala on the topic of Anti-War literature and how he feels; what he
feels anti-war literature actually is.

Kartikey Jandial: Good afternoon, sir

Mr. Jhala: Hi good afternoon

Kartikey Jandial: What do you think anti-war literature actually is and how does war
affect literature?

Mr. Jhala: As per my perspective anti-war literature is a kind of… is a kind of an anti-
war movement, writer’s by the means of writing, piece of writing probably it could be
prose, poems, drama, fiction they're writing they’re just you know informing the mass
about the repercussions of war and you know the result of war and also like its …. It
could be a kind of a what do you think it's like you know I believe it’s a one-person
narrative of the person who faced the war and the person who Ummm you know
enrolled thoroughly in the war and what he felt, in that way, I believe it’s ... it means
against the war or it’s …. To educate the mass about the result of war

Kartikey Jandial: Thank you sir

Daksh Chawla: So, our second question is what is anti-war literature according to
you?

Mr. Jhala: According to me anti- war literature is the writer’s perspective or it’s a one
person narrative or the third person narrative for example if we’re talking about the
book title…. “For whom the bell tolls” by Ernest Hemingway so like it’s a one person
narrative about a soldier; second one more I would also like to mention here is a
book by Gary Paulsen it’s called “Soldiers Heart” it talks about Da Costa syndrome
so in anti-war literature writer is just writing and they are contributing in literature
against the war.

Aditya Ohri: So, sir what do you think created anti-war literature?

Mr. Jhala: Actually, to educate the society to educate the political person that we
should not involve in the war the peace is very much required so the main reason to
wrote against the war that’s the anti-war literature.

Aditya Ohri: So, any author you would suggest.

Mr. Jhala: Yaa, many many authors have written and on different war; I start with
the American civil war and the Spanish civil war. So in the Spanish civil war Ernest
Hemingway has written a book for whom the bell tolls and another very good title is
Catch 22 by Joseph Heller and I would like to mention one juvenile fiction that’s
Soldier’s Heart written by Gary Paulsen and in that book he mentioned about a boy
who is from the farmer’s area; the rural or the countryside area and he had given the
age not appropriate I mean he was not supposed to be a part of the war but he gave
the age that he was mature enough that he was okay to be a part of the war after
joining the war he found the trauma and as the result of war he found over there
when he returned from there he was suffering from the Da Costa syndrome so these
are very good literature on anti-war and also like “A long way to go” it is about the
African civil war so there are many books you should read and they are very good for
the society; you know the generation; the political parties and the political people.
They will come to the conclusion that the war is not the solution, and that war is
catastrophic for the society.

Kartikey Jandial: Thank you so much for your valuable time, sir thank you for such
valuable insights into our topic

Daksh Chawla: Thank you

Aditya Ohri: Thank you
