The College of Health Sciences is the new established college at Hawler Medical
University in 2012. At first it included two departments: Medical Microbiology and
Clinical Biochemistry. Then in 2018 a new department was added which is Physiotherapy.
Then in 2022 two new departments were added which are Public health and Nutrition.
 World Health Organization
An agency of the United Nations, established in 1948 to promote health and control communicable
diseases. It assists in the efforts of member governments, and pursues biomedical research through
some 500 collaborating research centres throughout the world. Its headquarters are in Geneva.
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines Public Health as “the art and science of preventing
disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the organized efforts of society.
