1. (a) The scale on a map is 1 : 25000

(i) On the map, the distance between 2 schools is 10 cm work out the real

life distance between the schools. Give your answer in km.

(ii) The real life distance between two farms is 4 km work out the distance

between the farms on the map. Give your answer in cm.

(b) Draw a rough sketch of the triangle and construct the following.

(i) Construct a triangle with sides 5 cm, 8 cm , 10 cm

(ii) Construct the bisector of each angle.

(iii) The angle bisectors cross at the same point. Label this point O.

(iv) Construct the perpendicular to one of the sides from the point you found

in part C. Label the point where the perpendicular meets side A.

(v) Draw a circle with radius OA.

3. The first diagram below shows a cone of height 20 cm and base radius 5 cm. A
small cone is removed from the top of the large cone to leave a frustum of height
8 cm as shown in the second diagram.

(a) For the two cones, write down


(i) the length ratio
(ii) the area ratio
(iii) the volume ratio

(b) If the volume of the larger cone 525cm3 using the ratio of the volume
calculate the volume of the smaller cone and the volume of the frustum.
(5 marks)
(c) The volume of of two similar cuboids are in the ratio 1 : 125.
Find the ratio of the lengths.

4. (a) Find whether the given points lie on the line


(i) y = 6 - 2x (3,1) and (4 , -1)
(ii) y = 2x - 1 (5,9) and (1 , 2)

(e) Kris is building the end wall of a house. The first row has 38 bricks and
each successive row has one fewer brick than the row below. The top row
has only one brick. How many bricks are needed to build the wall?

6. When 20 litres of water are poured in to any cylinder, the depth D (in cm), of
the water is inversely proportional to the square of the radius (r) of the cylinder.
When r = 15 cm D = 28.4 cm
(a) Write a formula for D in term of r.

(b) Find the radius of the cylinder when the radius of the cylinder is 25 cm.
(3 marks)
(c) Find the radius of the cylinder when the depth is 64 cm.
(3 marks)
(d) Cylinder A has radius x cm and is filled with water to a depth of d cm.
This water is poured in to cylinder B with radius 2x cm.
What is the depth of water in cylinder B?
