Micro-Project Report
“Prepare a report on impact of natural disasters and manmade
hazards”

1.0 Rationale
Rational of our micro project topic is to collect all the information about
natural disaster and aware people. Natural disasters and manmade hazards have
significant consequences on societies, economies, and environments globally. This
report aims to assess and discuss the impact of both natural disasters and manmade
hazards, highlighting their effects and implications on various aspects of life.

2.0 Aims/Benefits of the Micro-Project

1. We can aware the people from disaster.
2. We have learnt about natural disaster and manmade hazard deeply.
3. We also learnt about work in team and how to collect data.
4. we success fully learn to using different tools.

3.0 Course Outcomes Achieved

a) Develop public awareness about environment.
b) Conserve Ecosystem and Biodiversity.
c) Apply techniques to reduce environmental pollution.
d) Manage social issues and environmental ethics as lifelong learning.

4.0 Actual Methodology Followed

1. We select our micro project topic.
2. we start working on our selected topic.
3. We divide each topic related our project between us.
4. We collect and gather information related to our topic and discuss.
5. Then we finally gather information and prepare project file.

4.1 Data Collected

1) Natural Disasters:
1.1 Definition and examples: Natural disasters refer to severe, extreme events
resulting from natural forces and processes, causing widespread damage and
destruction. Examples include earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, tsunamis, wildfires,
and droughts.
1.2 Social impact: - Loss of lives and injuries. - Displacement of communities,
leading to homelessness and migration. - Psychological and emotional trauma. -
Breakdown of societal structures and communal harmony. - Disruption of education
and healthcare systems.
1.3 Economic impact: - Destruction of infrastructure, including buildings, roads, and
bridges. - Loss of livelihoods, businesses, and employment opportunities. - Increased
government spending on emergency response, relief, and recovery. - Decreased
productivity and economic growth. - Long-term impact on industries such as
agriculture, tourism, and manufacturing.
1.4 Environmental impact: - Destruction of ecosystems, deforestation, and loss of
biodiversity. - Contamination of water sources and soil. - Soil erosion and land
degradation. - Increased carbon emissions and pollution. - Impact on climate change
and global warming.

2) Manmade Hazards:
2.1 Definition and examples: Manmade hazards result from human activities,
technological failures, or inadequate safety measures, leading to accidents or
deliberate harm. Examples include nuclear accidents, industrial accidents, chemical
spills, terrorist attacks, and urban violence.
2.2 Social impact: - Loss of lives and injuries. - Displacement and migration. -
Psychological trauma and fear. - Increased crime rates and violence.

2.3 Economic impact: - Direct costs related to rescue operations, compensation, and
medical expenses. - Damage to infrastructure, including factories, plants, and power
stations. - Loss of productivity and shutdown of businesses. - Impact on tourism and
financial sectors. - Long-term economic decline for affected regions.
2.4 Environmental impact: - Contamination of air, water, and soil. - Destruction of
ecosystems and loss of biodiversity. - Long-term environmental degradation. - Soil
and water pollution. - Increased health risks for humans and animals.

Natural and man-made hazards

Natural and man-made hazards include droughts, desertification, floods, landslides,

wildfires, earthquakes, tsunamis or cyclones. The dispersion of radioactive gases in
the atmosphere, or technological accidents - like oil plants or gas pipelines damaged
by a natural hazard and releasing hazardous materials or gases.

All these have significant social, environmental and economic impacts which need to
be measured to effectively support response strategies and mitigation and adaptation
measures. We carry out research to support Environment related to the hazards
above and to broader trends in the areas of climate change, sustainable management
of natural resources, water, food security, disaster risk reduction and response, among
others.

Introduction

Natural disasters are consequences of a natural hazard like an earthquake, landslide,

cyclone, flood, tsunami which affects human activities. Human vulnerability to
disasters is increased by poverty and the risk potential for disasters. A lack of
planning, preparedness and appropriate emergency management systems can lead to
devastating to human, animal, economic, and environmental. The impact of natural
disasters has been reduced by increasing preparedness for them, and when a disaster
occurs, rapidly and effectively assessing the impact of same.

A number of natural and man-made hazards have affected the state in the recent past.
Damages caused due to disasters were mounted to a larger extent. It has created huge
loss to human life and affected normalcy of the state at many intervals.

4.3 Result & Analysis

The impact of natural disasters and manmade hazards is multi-dimensional, affecting

the economy, society, and the environment. By understanding the consequences of
these events, policymakers, industries, and communities can adopt effective
mitigation measures, ensuring resilience and minimizing damages caused by such
events. Additionally, continuous efforts to enhance preparedness and response
capabilities are essential in mitigating the risks associated with these events.

Strategies for Mitigation and Preparedness -

To reduce the impact of natural disasters and manmade hazards, several strategies can
be implemented: -

1. Enhancing early warning systems and emergency response capabilities

2. Developing and implementing comprehensive disaster management plans

3. Strengthening infrastructure and promoting building codes that consider potential

hazards.

4. Implementing stricter safety regulations for industries, especially hazardous ones.

5. Encouraging public awareness campaigns and education on disaster

preparedness
