・Syuto Fujioka Riko Hirata These were highly enjoyable presentations, each of them containing

Shin Tokunaga(RIA) preparations under the unusual circumstances of holding the screening
online. The competition is in its fourth year, and this time the theme
・Yuji Ueki Kota Naruse

was“Public Space in the Year 20 XX.”This is quite a broad theme, and I
am sure narrowing it down to a specific idea was a challenge. Looking
・Zhiqiang Ma back over the competition as a whole, I feel that when considering the near future as
(Graduate School, Politecnico di Milano) expressed by the year“20 XX,”applicants took care to focus on key concepts such
Haoran Guo Ning Wang Linghao Wang as Internet-connected society, environmental issues, and aging in their proposals.
(Graduate School, Southeast University)
While proposals followed a rangea of patterns, those incorporating messages about
・Yuki Mita “participation”and“connection”particularly stood out.
(Graduate School, Yokohama National University) I personally believe that an open mentality and diverse ideas will be vital as we continue
to think about public space going forward. And I believe this competition represents a
step toward a future in which a wide variety of people are free to participate in creating
spaces for everyone.

The vertiports have been designed as catalysts for urban
improvement by addressing the question of resources and
impact as a foundational step in their integration process.
The research also considered the principles of transit-oriented
development, not only by bringing airborne transport links,
but also by integrating with other transport options to serve
local surroundings and solve the problem of the “last mile”. It
concludes that once UAM is well established with an extensive
network of vertiports, it could serve as an interesting contributor
to a mobility system of discrete and distributed modes that
complement rail or road infrastructure, providing a transit
network that is relatively inexpensive to create in cities that
never developed extensive metro or tram systems. Together
these benefits can give cities the accessibility that is needed to
attract new economic opportunities.

MVRDV’s The Imprint is part of the larger Paradise City complex
of entertainment and hotel attractions less than a kilometer
away from South Korea’s largest airport. Given the proposed
program of the 2 buildings – a nightclub and indoor theme

can we design an expressive façade that connects with its

The design achieves this by projecting the façades of the

The golden spot is the project’s most obvious and attention-

simply by using gold paint instead of white, and is reinforced
by the lighting of the façades at night. Passengers of incoming

This Fame-like academy is a one-of-a-kind school designed by
MVRDV in collaboration with Danish firm COBE for a former
industrial site in Roskilde, Denmark. Located inside an existing
factory hall, the school and the new-build student housing
that accompanies it are the final pieces of the ROCKmagneten
masterplan, also designed by MVRDV and COBE. The new
buildings join the Ragnarock Museum, which was inaugurated
on the site in 2016.
The Roskilde Festival Højskole is closely linked to the world-
famous Roskilde Music Festival, which every year temporarily
turns this small town on the outskirts of Copenhagen into the
fourth-largest city in Denmark. Courses at Roskilde Festival
Højskole last between 4 and 10 months, with students and
teachers living together at the school to achieve total immersion
0. Existing hall/既存ホール in their education.
The Roskilde Festival Højskole is the first purpose-built school
of its type in Denmark in 50 years, and it aims to further the
values of the Roskilde Festival through courses in music, media,
leadership, politics, art, architecture, and design.
The design is based upon a “box-in-a-box” concept: colorful
modules fill the warehouse-like shell of the main building, all
arranged around a central spine cutting from one side of the
building to the other. Alongside this route is a wooden tribune
that acts as the communal heart of the school. The boxes host
a variety of different functions including an auditorium, a
music studio, a workshop, and classrooms for dance, art, and
architecture.

Tainan Spring is a public space design that includes the
transformation of a former city-center shopping mall into an
1,300m2 * 11 levels urban lagoon and the improvement of a kilometer-long stretch
of the nearby Haian Road. The plan includes improved public
pathways, a reduction in traffic, and the addition of local plants.

recycled. The mall’s underground parking level has been

planned to be a perfect gathering spot for all seasons. This
space hosts playgrounds, gathering spaces, and a stage for
performances, while the artful deconstruction of the building’s
concrete frame has left a number of follies that can be converted
to shops and kiosks.
This new way of preserving heritage meant that the site was
not cleared and renewed in a tabula rasa approach – instead
the foundations of the former mall stick out of the park and
the lagoon like a contemporary Roman Forum, offering a visual
marker of the historical decision to close a port in favor of a
mall.
The renovation of Haian Road has brought new life to one
of Tainan’s most lively streets. Traffic on the street has been
reduced, with cars now occupying just a single lane in each
direction. Both Haian Road and the new public square see the
introduction of large areas of planting, which makes use of local
plant species mixed together in a way that emulates the natural
verdant landscape to the east of Tainan.
