OEM MAN had been done some inspection which is Hardness test, Crack test

and trueness test after this accident happened. Based on service report from OEM
MAN, Crank Pin unit No. 2 of main Engine No.1 can be machined and repaired on site
by our in-situ specialists. There have 3 patches had been made when the inspection
carried out. Regarding on quotation had been given from OEM to RMN, the cost of
repair very expensive and RMN try to another source to repair this crankpin. One
company from Malaysia which is Dyzara Sdn Bhd had been given an opportunity to
repair our engine and they had chosen SME on grinding this crankpin from India
(company name RA Power Solution).
RA Power Solution came to Malaysia on 29 Oct 21 to start grinding this crankpin
using its own special tools. The process of grinding this crankpin implemented until 2
Nov 21 and they need to went back to their country because the virus omicron had been
increase all over the world. After finished grinding process, two patches remaining on
crankpin. This grinding process start again on 12 Mac 22 after the government of
Malaysia give them green light to came here to finish their worked. This machining
process implemented until 16 Mac 22. FYI, original diameter of this crankpin is 250mm
and this machining process had been made until the diameter undersize approx. 4mm
(245.97mm). However, the last patches still remaining (size Lenght- 20mm, Width-
20mm and Depth-0.10mm to 0.15mm). After finished machining, all accessories had
been reinstalling. After turning engine, we see that big end bearing rubbing the crankpin
web which is abnormal movement of crankshaft. The SME from India had been told that
the conrod is twist. Our RMN had been bought a new conrod and company drzara sdn
bhd install new conrod and test had been made. This engine had been started about 30
minutes and abnormal sound detected. We advise this engine need to stop to prevent
more severe damage on other parts of engine. This company open the bearing and
found scratch on the surface. This company once again called this SME India to come
and check the condition of the crankpin.

On 29 Aug 22, this SME form India come onboard ship to inspect and try another
method which is:

1. They have polished crankpin unit #02 after ( 4.00mm ) undersized and final sizes of
this crankpin is 245.89 to 245.91mm. (another 0.07mm downsize from last diameter
245.97mm).
2. Also polished fillet radius and oil hole after Polished the crankpin #02.
3. After polished still remains one dent patches. They have taken measurements of dent
patches and observed minimum size 245.80mm and dent patches dimensions is given
below.
Length- 20.00mm
Width- 20.00mm
Depth- 0.10 to 0.12mm Approximately.
4. Hardness taken after polished of crankpin# 02 ( 4.00mm ) undersized and observed
240 to 272HB.
5. After polished they have checked Roughness test of crankpin #02 and observed less
then 0.20um RA value.
6. After polished they have checked blue matching and observed in good condition.
7. they have checked dimension of cylinder liner bore and observed under limits.
8. They have checked both Piston outer diameter and observed oval approximately
0.50mm.
9. They have carried out MPI Test of cylinder liner & cylinder liner seating area and
observed no cracks.

After polished of crankpin #02 they have assembled Connecting Rod Big End Bore
Housing with Crankpin #02 and found oil clearance 0.26 to 0.27mm and axel clearance
is also good. But when we have try to assembled Connecting Rod I Beam or Stem with
Connecting Rod Big End Bore Then Connecting Rod Stem is not seating properly. After
assembly of Connecting rod when we have rotating the Crankshaft and seen our
Connecting rod going from one side to the other side. Also we have seen in a same
time our Piston is moving one side to the other side in liner. They have removed the
Connecting rod from crankpin and checked properly and assembled again but have
faced same problem. SO they HAVE DECIDED TO CHECK MAIN JOURNAL RUN-
OUT OR INSPECT THE MAIN JOURNAL BEARINGS. They have checked RUN-OUT
of all Main Journal Units and observed Main Journal #02 RUN-OUT is very higher side
and observed scoring marks on the Journal and Journal Bearing. Also they have seen
Main Journal #02 pin and bearing have many scoring marks.

After finished inspection, they have recommended to check the Laser Alignment of
Cylinder Liner seating area, Laser Alignment of Crankshaft and the Laser Alignment of
Crankshaft with Gearbox or Fly wheel.
