enshrines the principle of the separation of church and state; Whereas, it is essential to
safeguard the religious freedom of all citizens; Whereas, it is imperative to ensure that
government institutions and religious institutions remain separate and independent;

HONTIVEROS: Goodevening, Mr. President. I would like to impose my deepest greetings to

everyone who have come tonight. It is my greatest pleasure to see each of us
commemorating this eventful night. I would like to implore a certain bill which is beneficial
for everyone, the PUSYON ECCLESIA BILL o “PUTOL RELASYON SA ANOMANG SIMBAHANG
PANTAO BILL” Whereas, the Constitution of the Philippines enshrines the principle of the
separation of church and state; Whereas, it is essential to safeguard the religious freedom of
all citizens; Whereas, it is imperative to ensure that government institutions and religious
institutions remain separate and independent;

I think kasi mr. president that, we are left behind by many developing country, kung baga,
naiiwanan na tayo sa daloy ng pampanahong pulitika, so I would like to addressed this bill,
na kung saan, kabataan o mga may malalking rango sa trabaho, ay makikinabang. I think its
time for us to depend the power on the institution and not on the church, kasi this power is
soley vested on us, so we should take accountability in adhering the power we had in serving
the taong bayan.

VILLAR/MICA: Good evening, a pleasant, especially to you honourable president and your
vices. I believe that the separation of church and state is a cornerstone of any modern
democracy. It ensures that government remains neutral when it comes to religion and
protects the individual's right to freedom of conscience. Without this separation, we risk
religious discrimination, conflicts, and a lack of religious freedom.

Debater 2 (Anti-Separation of Church and State - Opponent):

BATO/MORCILLA: Ahhh, medjo sang-ayon ako sa inyung dalawa, pero yung ideya na dapat
jud nating ganunin yung, ahh ipaghiwalay ang senado at ang simbahang katoliko na dapat
duha man yan sila. It’s essential to recognize the value of religious principles in shaping
moral and ethical foundations because, separating church and state can sometimes lead to
the exclusion of important religious voices from public discourse. After all, many of our laws
and societal values are rooted in religious traditions.

GO/KRIX: Valid concerns, but it's possible to strike a balance. We can acknowledge the
influence of religious principles on our laws without promoting any specific religion. Religion
has played a significant role in fostering morality and social cohesion, and it can continue to
do so while respecting the principles of religious freedom.

PRESIDENT/MAU: Speaking as your head, I agree that religion has had a historical role in
shaping societies, but today's world is diverse, with many different religious and non-
religious beliefs. By separating church and state, we create an environment where everyone
can participate in public life without fear of religious discrimination or exclusion. It's about
ensuring equal opportunities for all.

POE/CLIEVY: I understand your point mr. Delarosa, mr. Go, and mr. President, but allowing
religious principles to influence laws and government can lead to favouritism towards one
religion over others. It's crucial that everyone, regardless of their beliefs or lack thereof, feels
represented and protected by the government. Plus, if we allow religious principles to
dictate policy, whose religion should we follow? What about those who don't adhere to any
religion?

HONTIVEROS/ALYSSA: I completely agree with madame Poe, considering the fact that when
we allow religious belief, we might dispute other people’s norms. So I appreciate the given
perspective, but I worry that by entirely excluding religious values from public discourse, we
might lose some essential moral compass. People should have the freedom to express their
beliefs in a way that respects others' rights. As long as we maintain religious tolerance and
freedom, why should we keep religion out of our government entirely?

VILLAR/MICA: Well, that's where the debate lies. Striking the right balance between
religious freedom and the separation of church and state is a challenge. However, I firmly
believe that a secular government, one that remains neutral regarding religious matters,
ultimately provides the fairest and most inclusive framework for all citizens.

ESCUADRO/MAC2: It's clear that this is a complex issue with no easy answers. We should
continue discussing and finding ways to ensure religious freedom and the protection of
individual rights while respecting the influence of religion in our society.
