HIBISCUS FLOWER
Observation
The given flower
(Hibiscus) is an insect-pollinated flower.
Adaptations for insect pollination in the Hibiscus
brightiy-coloured (red, orange, yellow) large showy petals of flower to attract insects.
Flower is tubular with nectaries at the base (deep seated)
atens rorm a staminal tube. Large number of stamens produce plenty of pollen that adheres to the
back of visiting insect.
Petals and middle stamens form a bulls-eye.
Five large and sticky stigmas at the top, formed by the branching of staminal tube. They ensure their
contact with the back of visiting pollinator and to obtain pollen from there.
* Large amount of pollen provides pollen-food for visiting insects.
