must seek aid from when you face similar issues that are discussed below. The
issues that I have selected are mostly faced by the youths and children in Sri Lanka
in contemporary society. The names, contact details and other necessary
information of the organizations that I have mentioned will help you to seek
immediate assistance if you are one of the victims of these issues that is happening
in Sri Lanka. There are governmental and non-governmental organizations that
would come to aid in times of a critical situation. Therefore, please pay heed and
may sure you are getting assistance and guidance if you are a victim of it.

Issues
DRUG ADDICTION AND ABUSE
Addiction to drugs is one of the major problems faced mostly by youths of Sri
Lanka. When you are addicted to drugs, you can’t resist the urge to use them, no
matter how much harm the drugs may cause. Drug addiction isn’t only about the
intake of heroin, cocaine and other illegal drugs, you can get addicted to other new
habits like insomnia, anxiety, usage of anxiety indication medications and legal
issues. The earlier you get treatment for drug addiction, the more likely you are to
avoid some of the more dire consequences of the disease.

MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES: SUICIDAL THOUGHTS

Mental Health is our emotional, psychological and social well-being. It involves

how we think, feel and act. Mental health is important at every stage of life from
childhood and adolescence to adulthood. Poor mental health leads to stress and
suicidal thoughts which could be very dangerous.

CHILD ABUSE

Child abuse is when someone through action causes injury, death, emotional harm
or risk of serious harm to a child. Children should be safe and adults are
responsible to keep them safe. We must be able to recognize the signs and risks of
child abuse. There is physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse etc. These
different kinds of abuses are mostly kept hidden and not brought to light as some
feel awkward to speak about it.

What we provide
I hope that the information that we provided about the organizations that would come to our aid
in times of hardships and difficulties was quite helpful. Through this directory, we mainly focus
on providing the right information about the organization which would immediately support or

8
give us a helping hand when we are subjected to situations where we need someone’s support or
assistance to protect and guide us. Contemporary society had turned into a place where guidance
and awareness are very important in the process of living a healthy life. Therefore, lets not feel
ashamed or embarrassed for going through what we are going through and let’s seek immediate
assistance and guidance from these organizations and institutes that would not judge you for who
you are but guide you.
