We are the authorised representatives of M/s. Sterling & Wilson Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of M/s.
Shapoorji Pallonji group.
It gives us great pleasure, to briefly enlighten you, with this introduction letter, about the
Indoor Air Quality & Innovative solutions, from M/s. Sterling & Wilson, to address this
challenging aspect which is becoming more & more relevant and life threatening in the
present context.
The physical, chemical, and biological properties of air, within and around buildings, which
affect the comfort and health of its occupants, are the parameters, that constitute Indoor
Air Quality of a Commercial building /Hospital. These days the Poor Indoor Air Quality in
these buildings, is a growing concern. Recently, several studies are suggesting that indoor air
pollution, is 2-5 times worse, than the outdoor air pollution. Most individuals spend 08-12
hours (approximately), a day at their workplace, exposing themselves to dangerous indoor
air pollutants, such as bacteria, mold, viruses and carcinogenic VOC’s (Volatile Organic
Compounds) generated within these office buildings.
Since, all pollutants constituting IAQ, fall in sub 2.5 Micron Range, they have the ability to
penetrate the natural defence mechanism of the Human Body. It causes them to mix with
their blood stream. The Human Beings are thus affected / infected in various & complex
ways.
Depending on the exposure to Bacteria / Virus, the human beings are susceptible to various
diseases, such as Influenza, Bronchitis, Pneumonia, Tuberculosis, H1N1 Flu, Viral Infections
etc.
The Potential Health effects from exposure to Mold & Fungi include Respiratory Infections,
Allergies , Triggers Asthma, Hay fever, Legionnaire's Diseases etc.
Short-term exposure to various VOC’s may cause Irritation of the eyes and respiratory tract,
headaches etc.
Long-term exposure to various VOC’s may cause Dizziness, Visual disorders , Memory
problem and Nausea, Irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat, Fatigue ,Loss of coordination,
Dizziness Damage to the liver, kidneys, and central nervous system Cancer.
In regard to enclosed building's, it may be noted that the enclosed atmosphere of such
buildings and its human occupants, constitute an ecological unit. The enclosed areas /
rooms, within the buildings, can act as areas, where there are various influencing factors
that can contribute to the persons, acquiring infection, during their daily work.
The Engineering Hub building at Worli in particular requires special attention to ensure a
healthy indoor air quality and an efficient monitoring system in place to protect MCGMs
staff against possible infections and occupational diseases
