PREPOSITIONS OF PLACE
Prepositions of place describe the position of a
person or thing in relation to another person or thing.
…in front of …

“in front of” significa delante de pero no cara a cara.

Examples:

- The bank is in front of the bus station.

- Lucia is in front of you.
… behind …
“behind” significa “detrás de”.

Examples:

- The church is behind the hospital.

- Pepe is behind that bus.
- The cat is behind you.
… next to …
“next to” significa “al lado de”, “junto a”. También se
podría usar beside.

Examples:

- My car is next to my house.

- Her father is next to mine.
- Please, sit beside me.
… between …
“between” significa “entre”.

Examples:

- The store is between the bank and the train station.

- She is between Peter and John.
above vs over
Over y above se utilizan para referirse a aquello que está
encima de otra cosa o persona. Pero “over”, sí puede haber
contacto con la superficie, en este caso tiene un significado
parecido a cubrir. Cuando una acción tiene movimiento, solo
podemos utilizar over.
Examples:

- The athlete is jumping over the hurdle.

- She is wearing a shawl over her dress.
- The balloon is above the table.
- The ceiling is above your head.
under vs below
“below” tiene la misma traducción que under, pero
below solo se utiliza cuando algo está en una posición
o nivel inferior o una superficie sin que haya contacto
con ella.
Examples:

- The cat is under the table.

- Don't hide under the bed.
- The cellar is below ground.
- The temperature is below zero.
in vs on
Usamos in cuando algo está dentro de un espacio definido.
Usamos on cuando algo está tocando la superficie de otra
cosa.

Examples:

- The milk is in the fridge.

- There is some water in the glass.
- He has a tattoo on his arm.
- They hang pictures on the wall.
