(4) Oliver is investigating the germination of seeds. He is trying to grow seeds in different conditions.
The results are shown below. Oliver makes the investigation a fair test. He fills each container
with an equal amount of moist soil.

water, air
no air no water no light and light
(i) He uses the same type of seeds in each beaker. What other condition does he keep the same?
(1 mark)
(ii) Underline the correct answer.
Seeds need air for germination / Seeds do not need air for germination

(iii) a) If Oliver kept the seeds in a dark room, would they germinate. Underline the correct
answer.
Seeds will germinate / Seeds will not germinate.

(5) The Class of Grade 5C investigated the effect of light on plant growth. This is how they
performed their experiment.
They took two similar plants and watered both plants with the same amount of water. They
recorded the height of the two plants at the start. They kept one plant on a window pane
where there was a lot of sunlight and the other plant inside a cupboard. They measured the
height of each plant every day for 5 days. Their results were as follows:
Day 0 Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5
