Solid Waste Management: Dormitory’s Trash,

Journey to Zero Waste

Introduction:

In today’s generation, when environmental awareness and correct garbage disposal are only for

school projects and activities, solid waste management is a critical skill to be learned and a

valuable information to be shared to at least prolong the life of the planet. The management of

solid waste is seen as a critical worldwide issue that requires the government and its citizens to

act immediately. Waste in the Philippines has been increasing steadily and is predicted to do so

in the years to come. According to the analysis, sanitary landfill shortages, incorrect disposal,

growing volumes of solid waste, and lax enforcement of laws are all issues related to the nation's

solid waste management. (Coracero et al., 2021) Living in a dorm, an individual may notice that

managing waste isn't really a top concern especially when living in a dorm where the residents

have their own activities to do and also having the fact that the schedules are packed, and it's

easy to just toss everything into one bin without much thought. This research aims to address this

issue. It's about finding simple ways for dorm residents to handle waste without it becoming a

major time-consuming task.

Methodology:

This study will examine the likeness of a solid waste management in a dorm and how effective

will be a time-friendly way of managing solid waste in terms of the dorm’s cleanliness and

discipline of the residents living in a dormitory. This experimental quantitative research will

consider the descriptive correlation between the compressed time of the residents and the

difficulty of managing solid waste within a dormitory. It will be accomplished by utilizing the
survey method. It will be conducted by collecting information through a questionnaire from a

chosen sample of individuals based on their responses to the given questions by the researchers.

The purpose of the study is to find simple ways for dorm residents to handle waste without it

becoming a major time-consuming task.
