The transmission hydraulic system has a common reservoir. The reservoir is at the bottom of
output transfer gear case (10). The reservoir supplies oil for the operation of the torque converter

and transmission hydraulic systems. The reservoir also supplies lubrication oil to the different
components in the system.

Transmission charging pump (6) is a two section pump mounted on the rear of updrive gear
case (3). One section is used to charge the transmission hydraulic systems while the other
section is used to scavenge oil from the updrive gear case.

Oil is drawn from the reservoir through magnetic screen (17) by transmission charging pump (6).
Transmission charging pump (6) sends pressure oil to transmission oil filter (7). The oil flows
through the filter. If restrictions are present in the oil filter, a bypass valve in the filter housing
allows the oil to bypass the filter.

From filter (7), the oil flows to transmission hydraulic controls (8). The transmission selector and
pressure control valve, controls the pressure and flow of the oil to the transmission clutches for
engagement. The transmission selector and pressure control valve also controls the inlet oil to
torque converter (2).

Inlet oil, for operation of the torque converter and lubrication of components in updrive gear case
(3), flows through line (5). The inlet pressure valve for the torque converter (part of the selector
and pressure control valve) controls the oil pressure to the torque converter. Leakage oil from
torque converter (2) is also used for lubrication of the torque converter components.

After lubrication of the components, oil flows to the bottom of updrive gear case (3). Oil in the
bottom of the case is drawn through screen (13) by scavenge pump (14). The oil flows through
line (15) to the reservoir in the output transfer gear case (10).

Outlet oil from the converter flows to torque converter outlet relief valve (4). Relief valve (4)
maintains the pressure inside the converter at 415 kPa (60 psi) minimum. From the outlet relief
valve, the oil flows through line (1) to oil cooler (11).

After flowing through the oil cooler, the oil at a lower temperature, flows through outlet line (12) to
the transmission planetary. This oil is for lubrication of the transmission.
