Cat Eyes Mosaic Crochet Pattern by Sixel Design
Cat Eyes Mosaic Crochet Pattern by Sixel Design
This pattern is worked from the front, from right to left, with single crochet (SC) on the top row
back loop, and double crochet (DC) in the row below of the same color. Each row alternates
between color A and color B. The chart shows a numbered column on the beginning and
end of each row, indicating the color you will be crocheting the entire row with, either A
or B. These columns also count as your border stitches.
The background, color A, is indicated by white, and the cat, color B, indicated by purple in the
chart. The design example in the special stitches section uses green for color A and dark gray
for color B. You can use any combination of contrasting colors to create this design.
The “X” marks on the charts indicate when to stitch a DC. All of the blank squares will be SC.
There are several special stitches in this pattern. Please see page 7 for detailed instructions on
those special stitches. A video tutorial of special stitches is available here.

TO START
( 10 x 15 + 1 + 2 )
FOUNDATION CHAIN
Begin your foundation chain with 151 chains, plus 2 for the border stitches. (153 chains total)
Row 1: Chain 1, and SC into the second chain from the hook. SC the entire row for 153 SC
total. You will have 151 stitches for the pattern and a border stitch at the beginning and end of
each row. Follow the Single Cat Noir chart and instructions on page 3.
To Finish: Add 1 row SC stitches in color B, and 1 row overlay DC stitches in color A. To add a
border around your table runner, weave in your ends and add slip stitches in between each of
the border stitches on the sides and SC stitches along the top and bottom.
Begin your second row with all SC stitches. Your first row is color A, and second row color B, as
indicated in the numbered column of the charts. The mosaic pattern begins on row 3.
To extend the cat pattern across, follow the chart to the end of the repeat section (15 stitches).
Repeat the “repeat section” again to your desired size (10 repeats total for the table runner).
Finish the row with the last stitch in the chart.
To change the background color from the base the cat is sitting on, change color A at row 11.
TO START
( 5 x 15 + 1 + 2 )
Yellow Side: Frank Ochre and Black HOOKS USED: H/8 5mm and J/10 5.75mm
Green Side: Apple Green and Tormenta GAUGE: 19 stitches and 19 rows = 4 inches
Begin your second row with all SC stitches. Your first row is color A, and second row color B, as
indicated in the numbered column of the charts. The mosaic pattern begins on row 3.
To extend the cat pattern across, follow the chart to the end of the repeat section (15 stitches).
Repeat the “repeat section” again to your desired size (5 repeats total for the pillow). Finish the
row with the last stitch in the chart.
Follow the chart from rows 3-24 and begin again from row 3. You can continue adding rows 3-24
to your desired size. To end your pillow with a solid background instead of a cat tail (see
examples on page 3), finish row 16 of the Interconnected Cat chart and begin with row 25 in the
Single Cat chart to the end.
To create a cat silhouette without eyes, you can easily swap out two rows from the charts below
into any of the above charts. This is helpful when creating designs where the background color
may not be appropriate for cat eyes, or when you just want to simplify the motif.
BORDER STITCHES
When working any of the charts flat, add a border stitch at the beginning of each row: CH 1, and
SC back into the base of both loops of the first stitch, and end each row with a SC into both
loops, tighten, and CH 1, tighten, cut the yarn, pull through. Learn how to make a secure border
stitch in A Beginner’s Guide to Mosaic Crochet tutorial here.
All of my charts can be crocheted in the round to make bags, hats, sweaters, scarves, pillows
and more. Use the chain count listed above, but leave off the 2 border stitches. For a full tutorial

SPECIAL STITCHES
As with standard mosaic crochet charts, all blank boxes indicate a SC, and any boxes marked
with an “X” are DC on the row below. These charts have some special stitches and are outlined
below. For a full tutorial on special stitches watch this video.
Whenever you see a “2” in the chart, add 2 DC’s into the same stitch. Be sure to skip a stitch as
indicated in the chart to accomodate for the doubles.
Any “D’s” in the chart with a line above need a SC added directly above the DC.
When the line is above the first D in the chart, start the DC Dec with a SC.
SC in the next stitch and start a DC directly below it
into the lower row. Start a DC in the next stitch,
finishing by pulling through all 3 loops. (This will
create 2 chains for your next row with the 2 DC’s
together in one chain.)

HIDDEN STITCHES
This pattern has several DC Decrease stitches that are placed into hidden stitches from the
previous row. When you see stitches that are stacked on top of each other in the chart, this
indicates that there is a hidden SC stitch to connect to that is usually covered by a DC Dec or
diagonal stitch. If you push the diagonal or DC Dec stitch over you will be able to see the stitch
to connect to.
In this row you will be adding two very small bobble stitches to make the eyes a bit larger than a
standard SC. This is done the same way as DC Dec stitches, but both DC’s are in the same
hole. Please note this is the ONLY TIME you will be adding DCs into a SC row of the opposite
color.

on your hook.

Skip the next stitch and DC into the lower row of the
following stitch. Add a SC directly above it. (This will
create 2 chains for your next row.)
The DC’s between the skip and multi-diagonal will make all DC’s in
this sequence diagonal.
This chart has a double-diagonal. Skip the next Start the multi-diagonal with a DC in the next

ADDING A BACK
Line your 2 panels together, back sides facing. Fold the tail ends towards the inside of the
pillow. Secure the fur yarn to the first stitch on the front and back panels and chain 2. DC in
between every other border stitch through both panels. Chain 3 at the corners and start your
next DC in the following stitch.
