Example Situations
Sit.1 I was going to play golf, but it started to rain.
* He intended to play golf, but he didn’t. The action was not accomplished.
Use “was/were + going to” to talk about something that
was going to happen, but didn’t happen for some reason.
Sit.2 We were going to prepare dinner, but we decided to order
a pizza. *It all happened in the past.
Sit.3 I was going to be a rock star, but I became a teacher.
But Sit.4 Ricky said he was going to be late for the meeting.
Use “was/were + going to” to report what someone else intended to do.
In this case the action is going to happen.
