Energy efficiency design index- The EEDI for new ships is the most important technical measure
and it aims at promoting the use of more energy efficient (less polluting) equipment and
engines. The EEDI requires a minimum energy efficiency level per capacity mile (e.g. tonne
mile) for different ship type and size segments.
2. Energy efficiency operation indicator--- EEOI- EEOI is the amount of CO2 emitted by the ship
per ton-mile of work. So, it is the ratio of the CO2 emitted to the ton-mile (amount of cargo x
distance covered). But we could only know the amount of fuel consumed by the vessel
3. Each year a new White, Grey and Black list is published in the Paris MoU Annual Report.
The “White, Grey and Black (WGB) list” presents the full spectrum, from quality flags to flags
with a poor performance that are considered high or very high risk. It is based on the total
number of inspections and detentions over a 3-year rolling period for flags with at least 30
inspections in the period.
