PERSONAL PROFILE

From the Erasmus Project or work experience at Jandia Zoo to volunteering during lockdown, my
variety of experiences have enhanced my skill set. This ultimately led me to choosing an
environmental degree with a placement year. Being fully immersed in the course by being a course
representative has significantly benefited me making me more engaged in negotiation and public
speaking amongst university lectures and students. This alongside working part time has taught me
aspects of running a business and the importance of effective communication and relationship
building. I am currently looking for a placement year to widen my personal development and gain
valuable experience in the environmental field.

SKILLS PROFILE

Interpersonal and Negotiation

Connecting with course leaders and lecturers within university whilst being a course representative to
communicate and resolve the topics brought up by my cohort that need addressing, such as our
lithium report feedback. Interacting with a wide range of the public and managing annoyed customers
when often tables aren’t available, or the food wait becomes excessive.

Time management
I effectively balance my degree deadlines, sport, work and social life. I train and play for the UPTC
(tennis) 2nd team, UPLHC (hockey) 4s as well as running, organising and managing the University Padel
Tennis Club on top of playing competitively outside of university. Alongside this I maintain a part time
job and enjoy an active social life which includes surfing and hiking.

Technological
This year I have chosen the optional module of GIS (geographical information systems), this is my
favourite module due to its versatility and usefulness, by the end of this year I hope to be able to use
GIS independently. I have also learnt how to use Excel and MiniTab in relation to data analysis.

Critical Thinking
This has been prevalent when completing reports and projects, using GIS has meant identifying and
working around errors and finding alternative solutions to unforeseen problems.

Report Writing
My course and previous work has meant I’ve completed a series of reports including statistical
analysis, graphs and graphics. From ethics of coral reef regeneration, costal erosion in Pembrokeshire
or land management at Burrator Dartmoor I now am confident in this area and continue to improve
with the use of programs like GIS and Excel.

Field Based Practical and Laboratory Experience

From chemistry laboratory experience at Swansea University to the work I am doing and have done in
Plymouth including testing the physio-chemical water quality near the marine station to testing
vegetation cover with transects for biodiversity, I understand the importance of high-quality unbiased
data collection.

Teamwork
From playing in my hockey team, to working behind a bar or university group projects, I have plenty of
experience working in a group scenario and understand different dynamics and how to handle tense
situations.
