At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1) define repetition and
2) enumerate its advantages,
3) interpret the poem, and be able to
4) dramatize the poem “Annabel Lee” using lines from the poem itself,

A. Preparatory Activities

“This time I would like to share with you a poem,
which I am very sure you will find worth
memorizing. It is entitled Annabel Lee, a poem
written by a famous poet, Edgar Allan Poe.”

1) Presentation and Exploration
“Before I distribute a copy of the poem, let us first
know who the author is by examining his (The teacher will flash on the projector and will call

BIOGRAPHY
Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) was born in
Boston, the son of two actors who died before his third
birthday. He was raised in the United States and
England by John Allan, with whom he had a troubled
relationship. Poe’s adult life was difficult, too. He
earned only a meager living from his writings. Still,
during his short life he wrote poems and stories that
have made him one of the best-known American
authors. A critic has called his verse “easy but
unforgettable”

That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;--

In this kingdom by the sea.
But we loved with a love that was more than love—

4) Discussion
“This poem is an example of what kind of poetry? “It is an example of a narrative poetry”
“Correct. It is a narrative poetry, a poetry that tells
a story. Narrative poems have a special appeal. They
present dramatic events vividly, using some of the
elements as short stories such as plot, characters and
even dialogue.
a) Recalling
“Where do the events in this poem take place?” “In a kingdom by the sea”
“At what stage of life was the narrator when he fell “At a young age or when they were kids”

5-minute dramatization of the poem. Count off
from 1 to 5 and form your group. I will give you ten
minutes to prepare. Use some parts of the poem for
the script. Use repetition. I will grade each group
using the following criteria.

VI. Assignment
“Compose your own 4 stanza poem using
repetition as a literary technique. Pass it to me next
