2) enumerate its advantages,
3) interpret the poem, and be able to
4) dramatize the poem “Annabel Lee” using lines from the poem itself,

A. Preparatory Activities

“This time I would like to share with you a poem,
which I am very sure you will find worth
memorizing. It is entitled Annabel Lee, a poem
written by a famous poet, Edgar Allan Poe.”

“Who have read some of his works or had by any “ Yes ma’am”
chance had come across his name? Are you now
excited to read the poem?”

“Before I distribute a copy of the poem, let us first
know who the author is by examining his
background.”
“Who would like to read his biography?”
“This is the picture of Edgar Allan Poe”
2) Unlocking Difficulties
“Famous poets are well known for their intelligence
and exceptional talent ion writing. They have various
ways and techniques on how they make their
composition. They sometimes use words which may
be unfamiliar to us. So before we proceed, let us first
uncover the meaning of some unfamiliar terms used
in the poem.”
3) Reading Skills Enhancement
“Now that we already know the meaning of each
unfamiliar word, we are now ready to read the
poem.”
“I will first read the poem observing correct
pronunciation, stress and intonation, and proper
delivery. Make sure to listen intently because I will let
you read by and by.
(The teacher will flash on the projector and will call
on one student to read the biography of Edgar Allan
Poe.
BIOGRAPHY
Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) was born in
Boston, the son of two actors who died before his third
birthday. He was raised in the United States and
England by John Allan, with whom he had a troubled
relationship. Poe’s adult life was difficult, too. He
earned only a meager living from his writings. Still,
during his short life he wrote poems and stories that
have made him one of the best-known American
authors. A critic has called his verse “easy but
unforgettable”

That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;--

“This poem is an example of what kind of poetry?
“Correct. It is a narrative poetry, a poetry that tells
a story. Narrative poems have a special appeal. They
present dramatic events vividly, using some of the
elements as short stories such as plot, characters and
even dialogue.

“Where do the events in this poem take place?”
“At what stage of life was the narrator when he fell
in love?”
“What cause Annabel Lee’s death?”
“Why can neither the angels nor the demons
separate the narrator’s soul from that of Annabel
Lee?”

“How can a love be more than love?”
“How would you describe the love between the
narrator and Annabel Lee?”
“What can you say about the narrator’s mood?”

“The poet Countee Cullen once wrote, “Never love
with all your heart. It only ends in aching.” What
does he mean by this?”

your fellowmen, to the country as a whole and to
your family?

V. Evaluation
“As an evaluation, I would like you to have a
5-minute dramatization of the poem. Count off
from 1 to 5 and form your group. I will give you ten
minutes to prepare. Use some parts of the poem for
the script. Use repetition. I will grade each group
using the following criteria.
