He was chosen as the most valuable player of the 1989 MLB All-Star Game. He is
the only professional athlete in history to be named All-STAR in baseball and
football, and one of the few to do so in two major sports. Jackson's elite talent in
multiple sports has given him the reputation of being one of the greatest athletes of
all time.
He appeared on ProStars, an NBC Saturday night cartoon show, in which he
appeared alongside Michael Jordan fighting crime and helping children.
He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996.
After a hip injury on the field in 1990 ended his football career, Jackson focused on
baseball and branched out into other activities, including completing his bachelor's
degree in family and child development at Auburn.
In 1990, while playing American football, he suffered a hard tackle and dislocated
his hip. After operating on his hip, doctors discovered that he suffered from
osteonecrosis and decided to fit him with a prosthesis. That's why I would leave the
NFL, but not baseball. Incredibly, just one year later, in 1991, Jackson was back
playing for the Chicago White Sox. However, he would miss another year due to
surgery.
In his last years he no longer had stolen bases and his speed was much lower than
what he had before, he decided to retire permanently in 1995.
Before Royals games, Jackson used to shoot a target with a bow and arrow at
Royals clubs.
