Generating Electricity Through Roads

Aim: Our aim is to create sustainable and clean energy. (SDG 7)

In countries like India where vehicles are practically everywhere, we came

up with a model in which we can produce electricity from these cars moving
on roads.

Application of SDG Goals: SDG Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

Materials Required: Recycled Plastic Bricks, Metal Plates, Compression

Springs with rust proof coating , 1000kw Generator, Waterproof Box, Heat
Sensors, Pipes

Our Model: Our basic model is to innovate the modern speed brake. So we
will put recycled plastic bricks, this will act as our pressure plate. Under that
we will have large compression springs. When a car goes over these plates,
the kinetic energy caused due to the movement of the springs, will be stored
in a generator (preferably a 1000 kw) and then can be used for later. This
generator will be covered with a waterproof box, surrounded with sensors
monitoring the generator at all times. For the cooling of the generator we will
have a water cooling system on the outer walls of the box, providing a
suitable environment. For urgent or annual maintenance, there will be a
manhole-like entrance, leading to the generator and the main contraption.

Cost Effectiveness and Practicality: Though not a very cost effective

project, it is more like a one time investment, once implemented, we do
believe it can bring a change in the way we look at a sustainable future.

A drawback of this project could be the actual implementation as it

requires the deconstruction of some roads and that can be an
inconvenience to some, but once it is built into the road, no other
inconveniences will occur.
