According to Miriam Webster, Brain
Drain is the departure of educated or
professional people from one country,
economic sector, or field for another
usually for better pay or living conditions

1. This is a concern because brain drain decreases
our economic complexity which is a factor in
how good our life is.

2. Brain Drain in the Philippines peaked in 2016-2017 having
an average of 6.50 index points. In 2018-2021, there was a
constant drop, this may be due to covid 19. The world average
Brain drain based on 173 countries is 5.25 index points in 2021.
Even if there was a drop of average in 2018-2021, The average
point in the Philippines which is 5.40, is still higher than the
World Average Brain Drain in 2021 (Yap, 2021).

3. During the pandemic, hospitals were full of
patients who were diagnosed with Covid-19 and there
was a lack of professional help (nurses, doctors, etc.).
This may be the cause of the high average Brain Drain
in our country.

To recap, Brain Drain affects us in our
everyday life such as, lack of nurses (Chia
& Tolentino, 2021). Some of us have even
planned to work overseas.

They are affected because the community is
what makes a country prosper. So, like in the
pandemic, a lot people were affected like
not having enough hospitals for the people
who are infectred by the virus
