Food is not medicine

La comida / El alimento no es medicina
Hippocrates supposedly said, "Food must be your medicine and medicine must be your
food." I disagree. Food is not medicine. Thinking about food as medicine does not help
either food or medicine.

Hipócrates supuestamente / aparentemente / presuntamente dijo: "Que la comida / tu

alimento debe ser / sea tu medicina y la medicina debe ser / sea tu alimento / comida". No
estoy de acuerdo / Discrepo. La comida no es medicina. Pensar en los alimentos / Pensar
sobre la comida como medicina no ayuda ni a los alimentos ni a los medicamentos.

Food is so much more than medicine. Food is culture, love, and joy. Medicalizing food
deprives it of these positive attributes. A healthy relationship with food is essential, but not
because it has medicinal properties. Food is not just a fuel. It is more than nutrients to take
in — and we don't consume it just to reduce our disease risk.

La comida es mucho más que la medicina. La comida es cultura, amor y alegría. Medicalizar
los alimentos / la comida lo priva de estos atributos positivos. Una relación sana / saludable
con la comida es fundamental, pero no porque tenga propiedades medicinales. La comida
no es sólo / solo / solamente un combustible. Es más que nutrientes para ingerir, / — y no
los consumimos sólo / solo / solamente para reducir el riesgo de enfermedades.

People tend to think that a "superfood" can have instant benefits. But what we eat in the
present has a small, subtle influence on our health, which becomes powerful by affecting us
over our lifespan. Diet is just one of many factors influencing our health. The environment,
physical activity and genetics play important parts too. The 'food is medicine' philosophy also
makes you think of disease as a punishment: if you get sick, you must have eaten the wrong
food. People who are sick do not need that extra baggage.

La gente tiende a pensar que un "superalimento" puede tener beneficios instantáneos. Pero
lo que comemos en el presente tiene una influencia pequeña y sutil en nuestra salud, que /
lo cual se vuelve poderosa al / por afectarnos a lo largo de nuestra vida. La dieta es sólo
uno de los muchos factores que influyen en nuestra salud. El medio ambiente, la actividad
física y la genética también desempeñan un papel importante. La filosofía de que "la comida
es medicina" también te hace pensar en la enfermedad como un castigo: si te enfermas,
debes haber comido / es que has comido el alimento equivocado. Las personas que están
enfermas no necesitan esa carga extra.

On the other hand, medicine is the practice of maintaining health and preventing and
treating
disease. I suffer from diabetes and use medicine every day to stay alive. I could eat the
healthiest foods every day, but without medicine I would still die. Modern medicine is
incredible and we are living longer than ever before due in great part to public health and
modern medicine.

Food is food, medicine is medicine, and both of them are really amazing.

Por otro lado, la medicina es la práctica de mantener la salud y prevenir y tratar

la enfermedad. (Yo) sufro de diabetes y uso medicamentos todos los días para seguir con
vida / seguir vivo/a. Podría comer los alimentos más saludables / la comida más saludable
todos los días, pero sin medicamentos / sin la medicina aún moriría. La medicina moderna
es increíble y vivimos más que nunca debido en gran parte a la salud pública y la medicina
moderna.

La comida es comida, la medicina es medicina, y ambas / las dos son realmente

asombrosas.
