The Harlem Renaissance was a period of artistic explosion of the African Americans and an

opportunity for them to express their ability to do what the whites could not do. The whites were
discriminating the African Americans and thought of them to be of low class and poor. They
were denied education, they were denied freedom of speech and they were denied their human
rights.
But with the arrival of the Harlem Renaissance all of that changed, because the whites wanted to
associate themselves with the African American. Given that the messages which were presented
by the African American in writing and in theatres, had a great impact on the whites to an extent
that they recognized the worth of the black race. The whites would even associate themselves
with the African Americans in wars, like the one that occurred between the United States of
America and Spain. The Harlem Renaissance did not only awaken the whites into realizing the
importance of the black people but also played a huge role in bringing different races of people
together. The Renaissance also led to changes in how the whites and the whole world viewed the
black American population. It also gave the African Americans a chance to participate actively
in the development of the American Nations through active involvement in the economy, social
and politics.
