IV. Lesson Proper

A. Discussion of the lesson

Based on our activity game earlier, is there any

idea or hint that you got on what will be our
lesson for today?
(The student raise their hand)
Anyone?

Name of the student: It’s all about hazard that we

can encounter in farm
Very good

So our topic for today lesson is all about hazard,

risk and exposure in the farm

Hazard, Risk and Exposure in the farm

Now let’s define what is hazard, risk and

exposure. (the student attentively listen to the discussion)

What is hazard?

Hazard is the potential

for harm, or adverse
effect on an employee’s
health. Anything which
may cause injury or ill
health to anyone at or
near a workplace is a
hazard.

In short the hazard is any element that has a

potential to contribute to any accident

For example, the farmer will be going to use
tractor in farm

(the student attentively listen to the discussion)

The possible hazard that farmer may encounter

is tractors rolling over, people being run over,
people being tangled in implements and
machinery, tractor fires, touching overhead
power lines, noise-induced hearing loss, slips,
trips and falls while getting on and off the
tractor

How about risk?

Can you please read name of the student?

Risk is the likelihood that a hazard will cause

injury or ill health to anyone at or near a
workplace. The level of risk increases with the
severity of the hazard and the duration and
frequency of exposure Name of the student: Risk is the likelihood that a
hazard will cause injury or ill health to anyone at
or near a workplace. The level of risk increases
with the severity of the hazard and the duration
and frequency of exposure

.
Risk is often described as the product of hazard
and exposure to the hazard.

For example, the farmer is spraying the plants

with pesticide without using face mask the
potential hazard here is the pesticide and the
risk is the farmer being exposed to chemical and

being poison that may lead to sudden dead.
(the student attentively listen to the discussion)

Exposure occurs when a person comes into

contact with a hazard.

So here is the example of hazard, risk and

exposure

The farmer is going to the farm without shoes or

booths and he accidentally bitten by the snake so
the hazard is the snake the risk is he got bitten
and the exposure is he can get venom

Types of Hazard

Hazards are classified into five different

types. They are:

1. Physical - are
environmental factors
that can harm an
employee without
necessarily touching
them, including heights,
noise, radiation,
pressure wet floors,
stairs, work platforms,
steps, ladders, fire,
falling objects, slippery surfaces, manual
handling (lifting, pushing, pulling) and etc.

How about this picture? What do you think this

type of hazard is?

2. Mechanical and/or electrical – includes equipment, pressure vessels, dangerous goods,

Next is chemical hazard can you please read

(name of the student)
(the student will raise his/her hand to read)

Name of the student: Chemical - includes

chemical substances such as acids or poisons and
3. Chemical - includes chemical substances those that could lead to fire or explosion, like
such as acids or poisons and those that
pesticides, herbicides, cleaning agents, dusts and
could lead to fire or explosion, like
pesticides, herbicides, cleaning agents, fumes from various processes such as welding

such as welding

Chemical are agents that can make you sick.

They can get into the body through the nose,
mouth, or skin to cause harm. that can result in
poisoning, lung disease, skin irritation, or
damage to other parts of the body

4. Biological - includes bacteria, viruses,

mold, mildew, insects, vermin, animals

In Biological hazards as what it said they are (the student attentively listen to the discussion)
living organisms that can cause infectious

diseases and allergies. They include viruses,
bacteria, and molds.

5. Psychosocial environment - includes

workplace stressors arising from a variety
of sources include those that can have an
adverse effect on an employee’s mental
health or wellbeing.

Farm emergency procedures regarding safety

working environment.

1. Identify the potential emergencies.

Anyone from the class, can give me an example

of emergency that may occur in farm?

Very good!

There are so many emergencies that may

occur on crop production farm that
include
a. Fire (the student will raise his/her hand to answer)
b. Flood
c. Typhoon Name of the student: Flood, injuries and
d. machinery entrapment chemical exposure
e. electrical shock

f. snake or spider bite

g. chemical exposure
h. injuries
i. illness and
j. accidents

2. Provide emergency facilities appropriate for

the sorts of emergencies that might occur on
the farm (e.g. deluge showers, eye washes,
firefighting equipment, first aid kits).

3. Make sure that the correct equipment is

available to contain and handle any chemical (the student attentively listen to the discussion)
or other dangerous materials spills that might
happen.

4. To help minimize the risk of personal injury

or property damage in the event of an
emergency, people working on and visiting
the farm need to know and understand the
emergency procedures and their
responsibilities.

5. Instruct everyone working on the farm in the

emergency response procedures.

(the student attentively listen to the discussion)

6. Everyone should know the location of fire
alarms, fire extinguishers and first aid kits;
how and where to contact emergency
services; and where to safely assemble in the
event of an emergency.

The following factors may increase risk of

injury or illness for farm workers:

1. Age – injury rates are highest among

children age 15 and under and adults
over 65.
2. Equipment and Machinery – most
farm accidents and fatalities involve
machinery. Proper machine guarding
and doing equipment maintenance
according to manufacturers’
recommendations can help prevent
accidents.

Proper knowledge in operating equipment and

machinery must needed to prevent unnecessary
accident such as roll over machine and electric
shock

B. Application

For us to further understand the lesson we will

be having an activity.

I'm going to present a pictures, and you're going

to identify what types of hazard it is, what are
the possible risk and what are the possible
prevention?

Yes Ma’am!

(The students will start to answer the activity).
