The Arab-Israeli armed conflict is the oldest on the planet and has lasted

with few interruptions since 1920.Both sides cling to their "historic rights" to the
Holy Land. They accuse each other of every conceivable sin and open fire at the
slightest excuse.
Hamas is a Palestinian Islamist group and the ruling political force in the
Gaza Strip. Violent armed clashes have repeatedly taken place between Israel and
Hamas militants. Israel was attacked by the group on October 7, 2023, the 50th
anniversary of the start of the Doomsday War. First, about five thousand rockets
were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel, and then Hamas militants launched an
offensive into the country. They infiltrated 14 settlements and took both civilians
and military hostages. The resort city of Ashkelon, which is located on the shores
of the Mediterranean Sea, was also subjected to a rocket attack by Hamas
militants.
The conflict between Israel and Palestine has lasted for more than 75 years -
this unresolved confrontation between the two countries is considered the longest
in the world. Its cause lies in territorial disputes between Arabs and Jews.
