SUNKEN ISLAND

AGNES KOWALSKA - (35 years old) arrives by boat to “Sunken
Island” off the East Coast, in early autumn. She is an
archeologist, looking for remnants of ancient Celtic-Viking
cultures that arrived in the Americas. She wants to document the
violent pagan practices used in those days to honor the gods. She
hopes to find evidence of rituals which, through sacrifices to
the gods, were thought to increase fertility and hope for eternal
life. She arrives with professional archeological research
equipment and plans to spend three months conducting excavations
on the island.
One of her main tasks is to find the remains of former residents
and to determine how, when and perhaps why they died.
She stays in a room in a summer camp for children, which has been
around since the 60’s and was built in a deserted monastery.
Agnes attended this camp as a young girl, she was abducted and
nearly raped and murdered by people who were performing pagan
rituals. She managed to escape, but her closest friend, Clara could
not. All trace of her has been lost.

To this day, AGNES still suffers from horrible visions of what

happened to her and her friend. Back then, she promised Clara that
she would come back for her ...
And she has returned, to get revenge. She remembers the people who
abducted her. She remembers their faces. But she does not know who
was behind it all - who was the murderous cult’s head priest.
Therefore, under the guise of archeological research, she conducts
her own investigation.
Slowly and secretly, Agnes exacts revenge on all the perpetrators
of the heathen rituals, killing them one by one.
The island itself is a paradise on earth, funded by tourists who
spend lots money there. The local community is well-to-do and
very friendly: the local Mayor, the woodsman, the local Chief of
Police, the Parish Priest, the Abbot, the local Doctor Engelmann,
the chef of the local Restaurant, Peter. Everyone wants to help
Agnes (because her archeological discoveries might be the next
tourist attraction). But beneath the surface there are deeply
hidden secrets where an evil inner circle is at work.
Soon after her arrival, as if by an act of God, the widely
respected members of the local community begin to die off. First
the local parish priest takes his life under mysterious
circumstances. And then the next ones die (The Woodman, the
Doctor, The Restaurant Owner…). The viewer seems to be pursuing a
serial killer on the island and our heroine appears to be the
most vulnerable of them all - she survives several near death
encounters, and just manages to stay a step ahead.
The local police is investigating. Their prime suspect is:
Vladimir, an outsider who came to the island to look for his
daughter who went missing many years ago. He disappears and the
locals try to hunt him down. Meanwhile, he wants to get in touch
with Agnes to reveal the truth he has discovered: the island bears
a deeply concealed sect of pagan worshippers and once a year they
sacrifice a little girl. But Agnes knows that. That's why she came.
And that’s why she murders her former executioners one by one.

AGNES, over time, will discover more and more details of the
island's inhabitants’ diabolical practices. She finds out who they
really are and reveals a picture of the terrible practices that
have been taking place on the island for years and whose victims
have been forgotten.

The viewer learns the full picture at the end of the story. Agnes
seems to be the victim for the majority, not the perpetrator.
It’s only when she discovers the cult’s mastermind (the Mayor's
wife - the most pleasant and least suspicious character from
among all the inhabitants of the island), that Agnes begins to
act openly and turns the island into a bloodbath. Along the way,
she also saves a small, disabled girl who was selected by the
sect to be the next victim.

It all takes place on the island which, after the tourist season
in autumn, is mostly deserted. It has beautiful beaches,
phenomenal cliffs but also vast, wild forests. There are
mysterious ruins, hidden passages under abandoned monastic
buildings and fascinating archaeological discoveries.
The days are getting shorter and the people more and more tired
of the constant wind and rain.
Agnes has an affair on the island with Adrian, a man who at first
seems like a welcome ally but becomes her biggest threat.
