How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast,
posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an
outside source.)

Lesson idea implementation:

First, I would introduce the content standard to my students and explain what I want them to get
from it. I will tell them that they can choose a topic or person from the abolitionist and suffrage
movement. Once they choose a topic, they will teach a peer using a platform called Canva. They
will create a video on Canva and then share this video with a peer. I will then show my video to
them as a reference that they can have. After this, I will highlight all of the features that Canva has
to offer and different things that they can implement into their video. I will allow students to
create their videos and walk around to scaffold for any questions that they may have. Once videos
are done, I will pair students with each other so that they can share teach a peer about their topic.
They can share feedback with each other and share what they learned.

Managing student learning: Students will become active learners because they will creating their
own videos after seeing a demonstration from the teacher. I will set time limits to check in,
students can ask each other any questions that they may have about Canva, and they also have
the opportunity to work with a partner.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
This activity gets students engaged because they have their own opportunity to be creative and show their
learning. This supports engagement and action and expression. This supports all learners because Canva
offers a voice recording for those who may need extra support are accommodated.
Reflection: I feel like this impacts student learning because students get to take ownership of their
own learning through producing. They get to choose whatever that they want to include and feel like
it can teach their peers. I look forward to scaffolding while the children create. I want to be able to
see them browse through Canva and gain an understanding of how to use it to their fullest potential.
I am excited to see their creativity and the things that they come up with.
