House Manager Checklist

One Hour Before the House Opens

_____Check the house (audience seating area). Make sure it’s ready to go.

_____Check the lobby. Do any necessary setup.

_____Make sure all necessary doors are unlocked.

_____Enough programs in place.

_____Any necessary signage is ready to go.

_____Make sure bathrooms are stocked and clean.

_____Check with the box office for any audience members with specific needs.

_____Make sure necessary lights are on in the lobby.

Train Ushers

_____ Assign them jobs (What doors? Programs? Taking Tickets? Etc.)

_____ Remind them to be kind and helpful.

_____ Answer any questions.

When the House Opens ( ) Minutes Before Curtain

_____Check in with Stage Manager to open house. (Allowing audience into seating area)

At Curtain Time (start of show)

_____Lobby and restrooms clear of patrons?

_____Tell Stage Manager that house is ready.

_____Shut any theatre doors and turn off any lights.

After the Show Begins

_____Check in with box office and concessions.

_____Seat latecomers as needed and at the appropriate time.

At Intermission

_____Open doors quietly, turn on any lights.

____ Be present to answer any questions or help with anything.

_____Be in communication with Stage Manager.

At End of Intermission

_____Lobby and restrooms clear of patrons?

_____Tell Stage Manager that house is ready.

_____Shut any doors and turn off any lights.

After the Show

_____Open doors and turn on any lights.

_____Make sure someone is stationed to keep audience members out of backstage area.

(*Backstage is a private area for actors and technicians only. No guests allowed.)

After the Theatre Has Cleared

_____Check the house for programs, garbage, forgotten items.

_____Tell Stage Manager you are done.

_____Put away any lobby stuff. (tables, chairs, displays, etc.)
