The process of developing a business plan, launching and running a business using innovation to meet
customer needs and to make a profit is entrepreneurship.
An entrepreneur is a person who is self-employed, is willing to take a calculated risk and brings in a new idea
to start a business.
ii. What role does Entrepreneurship play?
• Economic Development— Money in Circulation - As entrepreneurs create value by making
availablebetter and cheaper products and services for customers, the economy grows. As
entrepreneurs grow their business, investors put money into their businesses and expect good
returns. As more and moreentrepreneurs create business opportunities, the economy grows.
• Social Development—Creation of Jobs - A business started by an entrepreneur is usually a very
smallbusiness in the beginning. If it becomes successful and grows, the entrepreneur expands the
business.As the business grows, it needs more work to be done and so creates more jobs. Good
quality jobs lead to more people earning money and having a good life.
• Improved Standard of Living— More things available to live a comfortable life When

• Optimal Use of Resources - There are various natural resources present around us renewable

The various benefits include the
following:
• Do what you are interested in: Entrepreneurship allows you to start and do something you like
usingyour hobbies and skills.
• Work for yourself, and not for others: As an entrepreneur, you can work for yourself and not for
someone else. You can decide the kind of work you like to do and how you want to do it.
• Make profits for yourself: As an entrepreneur, you can decide how much money you want to earn
andhow you want to earn it.
• More risk, more profit: Even though there are risks in entrepreneurship, it allows you to decide how
much risk you want to take. Usually, the larger the risk, the bigger could be the profit!

a. Product business A business where a seller and buyer exchange an item, which can be seen and
touched,is called a product based business.
For example, a Sports Shop
There are two types of product-based businesses
Manufacturing businesses These are the businesses that make a product and sell it.
Trade businesses These businesses buy and sell a product. They also transport the product from
thefactory to warehouses and then finally to shops near the customers.
b. Service business A business where a seller helps the buyer to finish some work.
For example, a cricket coaching center.
c. Hybrid business A hybrid is the one where the business is doing both selling product and selling
services.For example, Rahul starting a sports academy for coaching and selling sports equipment.
We also see this in restaurants where the food itself is the product sold and the catering is the service
provided.

viii. What is the meaning of manufacturing and trading based business?


Manufacturing businesses These are the businesses that make a product and sell it.
Trade businesses (Merchandising) These businesses buy and sell a product. They also transport the
product from the factory to warehouses and then finally to shops near the customers.

Based on size:
Micro Enterprise: A micro enterprise is a business enterprise where the investment in plant and machinery
orequipment is not more than INR 1 crore and turnover does not exceed INR 5 crores.
Small Enterprise: A small enterprise is a business enterprise where the investment in plant and machinery
orequipment is not more than INR 10 crore and turnover does not exceed INR 50 crores.
Medium enterprise: A medium enterprise is a business enterprise where the investment in plant and machinery or
equipment is not more than INR 50 crore and turnover does not exceed INR 250 crores.
Based on legal form:
Sole proprietorship: In a sole proprietorship, the ownership and control of the business is with one single person, and
the liability of the owner is not separate from the entity.
One Person Company: A One Person company also has only one person as a member, who acts in the capacity of
both, a shareholder and a director, but an OPC is legally separate from its owners. There is no threat on the
owner’s personal property in case of unmet liabilities.
Partnership: Partnership is a legal form, where at least two people, or more start a business as co-founders or co-
owners and divide the share as per agreement. The partners are personally liable for an unlimited amount of
liabilities.
Limited Liability Partnership: In a Limited Liability Partnership, there are two or more partners. In this, no one single
partner or owner is individually responsible for any other partner’s or member’s negligence or misconduct or
liability.
Company: A company is defined as a legal entity formed to get engaged in business, by a group of individuals.
Usually, these individuals have limited liability, and the capital in units of equal value of a company are called
‘shares’. Company can be public or private.
Based on sector:
Primary sector: This sector includes businesses that involve extraction, retrieval, harvest and production of raw
materials using natural products from the earth. For example, some raw materials include coal, wood, grains,
iron, corn etc. Thus, some primary sectors include mining, agriculture, fishing, horticulture etc.
Secondary sector: The main activity of businesses in this sector is transformation of raw materials into finished goods.
It takes products from primary sector and organizes all factors of production to make utility as well as luxury
products.
Tertiary sector: This sector is defined by provision of services to businesses and customers. It is completely based
ona service and there is no production of goods involved.

1. What do you understand by the term IT and ITeS?
Ans. Information Technology means to create, manage, store and exchange of data via various methods.
To transfer, create and store data we need many technologies such as computer software and hardware, etc.
These technologies help us to manage the data in a significant way.
Information Technology can be seen in every industry. This technology regulates the functioning of the
industries smoothly. Those industries which enable Information Technology to provide quality services is called
Information Technology Enabled Services (ITes). Some industries also use web-enabled services or Remote
services to improve the efficiency of their work.
2. What are the pros and cons of using ICT?
Ans- Pros of Using ICT are:
• Easy and quick communication
• Anywhere anytime easy access to information
• Improved housing and lifestyle
• Increased the productivity and efficiency of every industry in the world.
• Convenience in travelling and education
• Encourages innovation and creativity
• Creation of new jobs -ICT has created new and interesting jobs.
Cons of using technology are:

Ans. The use of IT in our daily life includes listening to music, watching movies, playing games, doing office work,

Ans- Nowadays many libraries are computerised. Each book has a barcode associated with it. This makes it easier
for the library to keep a track of books and the availability of a specific book. Computer software is used to issue
and return the book. Each book in the library has a magnetic strip attached to it
that is deactivated before the book can be borrowed.

1. Discuss the various types of keys available on a computer keyboard.
Ans. A computer keyboard contains the following types of keys:
• Alphanumeric keys: All of the alphabet (A-Z) and numbers (0-9) on the keyboard.
• Punctuation keys: All of the keys associated with punctuation, such as the comma (,),
period (.), semicolon (;), brackets ([]), and parenthesis ({ }) and so on.
• Alt key: Short for Alternate, this key is like a second control key.
• Arrow keys: There are four arrow keys to move the cursor (or insertion point) up (↑),
down (↓), right (→), or left (←).
• Shift or Alt keys: To move the cursor in more than one position at a time.
• Backspace key: Deletes the character just to the left of the cursor (or insertion point)
and moves the cursor to that position.
• Caps Lock key: It is a toggle key.
• Ctrl key: The control key is used in conjunction with other keys to produce control
characters.
• Delete key: The Del key deletes the character at the current cursor position, or the
selected object, but does not move the cursor.
• Enter key or Return key: It is used to enter commands or to move the cursor to the
beginning of the next line.
• Esc key: The Escape key is used to send special codes to devices and to exit (or escape)
from programs and tasks.
• Function keys: Special keys labelled F1 to F12.
2. Differentiate between Home Keys and Guide Keys.
Ans2: Home Keys: Alphabets ASDF are home keys for the left hand and; (semi-colon) LKJ for the right hand.
The fingers are trained to make the correct movement to other keys and each finger returns immediately to its
respective home key .
Guide Keys: On a computer keyboard, keys ‘F’ and ‘J’ are called guide keys for left and right hand,
respectively. Both contain a small raised tangible mark with the help of which the touch typist can place the
fingers correctly on the home keys.
