Coal Mining 7 (B)
ACTIVITY 7
2. Assume that three battery-operated coal haulers are projected to replace the shuttle cars in the
section layout from the sample problem below. Assume that each vehicle can haul 10 tons. Further
assume that each turn time adds 0.30 minutes to the cycle. If the coal haulers have discharge times
of 0.35 minutes and every other consideration remains the same, what is the new total cycle time, in
minutes?
Since the in-by cycle time is 0.32+1.25+0.32=1.89, and the out-by cycle time is
0.61+0.30+0.35+0.61+0.20=2.17 , the continuous miner has to wait (WSC) for shuttle car 1 to return to the
CP for carloads 3,5, and 7 for a total of:
= (3) (2.17−1.89)
= 0.84minutes
TT, the tram time for the miner to go from the end cut 1 to the face cut 2 has been determined to be 4.11
minutes, thus
LCT=9.72+5.13+0.84+4.11=19.8minutes
3. Shearer production calculation. The coal produced by the shearer can be easily calculated using
the seam height, web width, and panel width. For every pass, the total amount of coal produced
(CP) will be:
CP = (seam height)(web thickness)(panel width) (Equation 1)
Assume the following values for Equation 1:
• Seam height = 62 in.
• Web thickness = 47 in.
• Panel width = 1,000 ft
