Hello friends, this time I will tell you about my pet, the turtle.
Turtles are four-legged scaly animals that belong to the reptile group. This nation of
animals called (order) Testudines (or Chelonians) is distinctive and easily recognizable
by the presence of a hard and rigid 'house' or shell (bony shell).
The shell consists of two parts. The upper part that covers the back is called the carapace
and the lower part (ventral, belly) is called the plastron. Then each part consists of two
layers. The outer layer is generally large and hard scales, arranged like a roof; while the
inner layer is bone plates arranged tightly like a shell. The exceptions are the rabbits
(Trionychoidea) and leatherback turtles, whose outer layer is devoid of scales and is
replaced by a layer of skin on the outside of the bony shell.
In Indonesian, we recognize three groups of animals belonging to this nation, namely sea
turtles (English: sea turtles), labi-labi or bulus (freshwater turtles), and tortoises
(tortoises). In English, there is a further distinction between land tortoises and freshwater
tortoises or terrapins.
And tortoises themselves have various names, including : Ambon tortoise (Cuora
amboinensis), Forsteni tortoise (Indotestudo forstenii), Sulawesi forest tortoise
(Leucocephalon yuwonoi), Pig-snouted tortoise (Carettochelys insculpta), Sun Tortoise
(Heosemys spinosa), Sea Tortoise (Batagur borneoensis), Rote Island Snake-necked
Tortoise (Chelodina mccordi), Brazilian tortoise (Trachemys scripta) and so on. Among
the turtles that can be kept, one of them is the Brazilian Tortoise. And I keep Brazilian
tortoises at home too.
The Brazilian tortoise or other name Red Ear Slider Turtle is a type whose naming is
inspired by the shape of its ears which have a red hue. This type of turtle is included in
the freshwater turtle with the Latin name Trachemys scripta elegans which is already
popular as a pet. The price of Brazilian turtles is the most affordable compared to other
types of turtles.
The maintenance is also easy, including the food. Usually eggs are the main food for
Brazilian tortoises. How to give it, namely boil the egg first. After that, cut the egg into
small pieces so that the turtle can eat it easily. In addition, green vegetables or food in
the form of pellets can also be given to Brazilian tortoises.
