INTRODUCTION:

Aluminium is a versatile and widely used metal due to its


unique properties .Aluminium used for automobiles in
making car bodies, wheels and improves fuel efficiency .
Aluminium is used in construction of aircraft and railway
carriages due to its lightweight .it used for transmission of
electricity due to its excellent conductivity. Aluminium is also
used for making utensils . Most of recycled aluminium is
melted and modify in other aluminium products and
compounds like ALUM.
Alum have double sulphates having general formula :
X2SO4.M2(SO4)3.24H2O Where X:
monovalent cation
M:
trivalent cation

USES OF ALUM:
Chemical:
 Used as coagulant in water treatment process to purify
water.
 Used in tanning of leather.
 Used in dyeing and printing process as mordant.
 Used as fire retardant in textiles and wood products.
 Used for preservation of food like pickles.
Medicinal:
 Used as styptic agent to stop bleeding.
 Used as deodorants which inhibits the growth of
bacteria responsible for body odour.
 Used to remove pimples and Acne .
 Used in topical creams and ointments to reduce
imflammation and provide temporary relief.
Culinary:
 Used to create crystalized or candied fruits ,it helps from
a crystalline structure on the fruits surface preserving its
texture and enhancing its sweetness.
 Used to preserve and add crispness to fruit and
vegetables.
 Used to maintain their firmness in fermented foods.
Traditional:
 It is know as fitkari .
 It is usually used for positive vibes in several houses.
