FORMAL EXPLORATION OF NAVARASAS
PROGRAMATIC EXPLORATION THROUGH BAHVAS
The Central idea is to create
a non place where on INTER PERSONAL
experiences a void a feeling of
balance and detachment in a PERSONAL
busy environment surrounding
the project. throught this
space the project then
spreads into the programmatic
representation of the sthayi VOID
bhavas where people can
engage in hobbies which may
not be possible inside their
homes due to time, space and FUNCTIONS
emotional constraints. This
project provides a space to FUNCTIONS
pause in a busy city.
In the Personal functions, the
positive Sthayi bhavas are
used to extrapolate and derive
functions philosophically
related to them in order to
balance out the negative
bhavas and bring the user’s
mind to a state of equilibrium.
it is in these functional areas
that the formal understanding
of navarasas are showcased
with the negative ones acting
as antechambers and positive
ones being the functional
zones which eventually
culminate in the central space
SITUATING THE PROJECT: AVEGA vs SHANTA
SITE 1
The first potential site is located in the empty
land between the diverging railway SUBURBAN
alignments of the central and western DADAR
RAILWAY
railway lines. WEST
STATION
it lies on the treshold between the west and
east part of Dadar and in between the two
suburban stations which act as a intechange
zone
Strength: Close proximity to the suburban
railway stations and it lies on the
interchange point
Weakness: Linear orientation, noise from DADAR
railways EAST
Oppurtunity: Integrated interchange,
treshold
Threats: May encorach on railway buffer
 SITE 2
The Second potential site is located on the
SUBURBAN
major intersection between the Arterial road
RAILWAY
and the Expressway. it is in form of four
STATION
identical preserved corner buildings spread
around the circle. This marks the entrance to
the preserved parsi precinct of the city.

Strength: Close proximity to the suburban
railway stations and it lies on the road
interchange point
Weakness: noise from road, Fragmented
Oppurtunity: treating the buidings through
adaptive reuse
Threats: unifying the site may be difficult

The first potential site is located in the empty RESIDENTIAL
land On the intersection of major feeder
roads leading upto dadar railway station and
other regions of the area

Strength: Close proximity to the suburban COMMERCIAL

railway stations, Treshold between
RLY commercial and residential land use
STN. Weakness: noise from traffic
Oppurtunity: Integrated interchange,
treshold, additional transit zone may be
developed
