    E 21 – Sway frames

    By using the stiffness method, solve the following structure. Solve the symmetric and the
    antisymmetric cases separately.

    By solving, it is meant to:


    a. Find all the unknown rotations and displacements
    b. Calculate the bending moments in all joints
    c. Sketch the bending moments diagram
    d. Approximatively sketch the deformed shape
    e. Calculate the reactions

    Data: E = 200 GPa, I = 5e-5 m4, q=10 kN/m, P=20 kN. All members measure 4m.
