Discrimination, in all its forms, casts a dark shadow on the principles of equality and
human dignity. At Alejo M. Pacalso Memorial National High School Extension, we recognize the

foundation of an inclusive and supportive learning environment. This position paper seeks to
illuminate the pervasive nature of discrimination, explore its detrimental impacts on individuals
and the community, and, most importantly, advocate for proactive measures that foster equity,
respect, and understanding among all members of our school community.

SURGERY

Surgery is a medical procedure that involves the manipulation of the body's tissues and
organs to treat or prevent disease. It is a complex and highly specialized field that requires
extensive training and expertise to perform safely and effectively. While surgery can be an
effective treatment for many conditions, it is not without risks and should only be performed
after careful consideration and evaluation by a qualified healthcare provider.

There are several factors that should be considered when deciding whether surgery is the
appropriate course of action for a particular patient. These include the severity and nature of
the condition being treated, the patient's overall health and medical history, and the potential
risks and benefits of the procedure. In some cases, surgery may be the best option, while in
others it may not be necessary or may even be harmful.

One of the main advantages of surgery is that it can provide a permanent solution to many
conditions. For example, surgical procedures can be used to remove tumors, repair damaged
tissues and organs, and correct deformities. This can greatly improve a patient's quality of life
and allow them to live a more normal and fulfilling existence.

However, surgery also carries risks and potential complications. These can include
infection, bleeding, nerve damage, and other issues that may require additional treatment or
even hospitalization. It is important for patients to carefully weigh these risks against the
potential benefits of the procedure before making a decision about whether to undergo
surgery.

In addition to the physical risks associated with surgery, there are also psychological and
emotional factors to consider. Patients may experience anxiety, fear, and depression before
and after the procedure, and it is important for them to receive appropriate support and care
to help them cope with these feelings.

Overall, surgery can be an effective treatment option for many conditions, but it should
only be performed after careful consideration and evaluation by a qualified healthcare provider.
Patients should weigh the potential risks and benefits of the procedure and carefully consider
their options before making a decision about whether to undergo surgery.
REFLECTION:

JESREEL:
This activity makes me reflect on the delicate balance that healthcare providers and
patients must navigate. The notion that surgery can provide a permanent solution is powerful,
yet the awareness of risks, complications, and the need for careful consideration adds layers to
this understanding. This reflection brings to light the complex decision-making processes
involved in healthcare and the importance of weighing long-term benefits against potential
short-term challenges.

XYLYNN:
The paper's acknowledgment of both the physical and psychological aspects of surgery
reflects a holistic approach to patient care. Beyond the technicalities of the medical procedure,
it highlights the emotional and mental well-being of the patient. This viewpoint underscores the
interconnectedness of physical and mental health, emphasizing the importance of a
comprehensive care model that addresses not only the immediate medical needs but also the
broader aspects of patient experience and recovery.

ASHLEY:
In our journey in making this activity did leave a great impact on me. It made me realize
and learned new things about surgery, As we brainstormed about our topic, our interest also
started to grow and being curious is actually a great feeling. Our curiosity drove us to know that
surgery is not always an advantage for us, it may also have a negative impact. Knowing this
things, opinions and arguments also filled our minds and it is one of the step on how we made
this position paper. This position paper helped us and we hope that this will be useful too for
someone.
