We can control improper waste disposal by these four solutions which are unity, technology or
modernization, set guidelines or targets, and discipline. We must unify in order to act with a
same goal in mind: to maintain our surroundings presentable and clean, and to dispose of our
garbage in the appropriate locations. The problem is that there are many different perspectives
on this issue, and although there is a definite plan in place, not everyone is interested in it,
therefore no action is taken. The second is modernization and technology. Advanced software
has made it easier to plan out routes that can efficiently guide waste collecting trucks. This not
only make it easier to collect the waste and recycling materials that need to be collected. It also
makes the collection more fuel-efficient and reduces energy usage. We must accept modernity
in a positive light. There are technological improvements that help to conserve the
environment for future generations. We need to employ environmentally friendly technology.
The third is set guidelines and targets for solid waste avoidance and volume reduction through
source reduction and waste minimization measures. Including composting recycling, reuse,
recovery, green charcoal process, and others, before collecting disposal in appropriate and
environmentally-sound solid waste management facilities by ecologically sustainable
development principles. The fourth and most crucial factor is discipline. As the adage goes,
“Discipline begins with us.” Discipline is the bridge between goal and accomplishments.
Solid waste management has become an increasingly important issue for sustainable
development. Trash reduction, reuse, recycling, and composting methods are better suited
dealing with the problem of waste created by families and businesses. These solutions should
be included into a long-term plan that is environmentally friendly.
Sinulog Festival
It is one of the most famous festivals in the Philippines. It was attended, not only by Filipinos, but people
coming from different parts of the globe also went to witness the celebration. The magnificence of the
festival made Filipinos, as well as our fellow Asians, refer to it as the “Mother of all Festivals”. From the
colorful and well-made costumes of the dancers, to the beautiful dances and to the music brought by
the drums, trumpets, and the native gongs, the Sinulog Festival never ceases to amaze its audience. The
Sinulog Festival is a traditional celebration in Cebu City held every third Sunday of January to honor the
Santo Niño (Child Jesus). Basically, the festival is done by a dance ritual, in which it tells the story of the
Filipino people’s pagan past and their acceptance of Christianity. The word “Sinulog” means “graceful
dance”, wherein it all started in 1980 with a simple dance that represents the “sulog” (or current) of a
river in Cebu.
One of the most celebrated Christian festivals in the Philippines is Flores de Mayo or also called Flores
de Maria. It is a Spanish term that translates to ‘Flowers of May’. It is a tribute to the Virgin Mary, who
gives rain when farmers ask for it, and the celebration for it represents the farmers’ unwavering
gratitude. Stories say that it makes various flowers bloom and grow new crops for food. It has been
practiced for hundreds of years now, but we still observe them up to this day. In fact, it is widely
observed throughout Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Furthermore, it is gaining further recognition
abroad, such as in Europe and America because of the Filipino immigrants who brought it with them.
Visayas, at Mindanao.
