What is Matter?
Any physical instance in universe which occupies space can be referred to as matter. In matter we study
about its specified branches of knowledge.

2. Research Purpose
Through scientific research, human find ways to understand physical and social phenomena. This is
basically the purpose of research. We try to understand underline forces and laws as purpose of research.
To clearly understand about purpose of research, we have to focus on below three points
1. Understand (having some specific knowledge)
2. Predict (after understanding the structure and behavior, one can predict things. Prediction is
always based on some laws

3. Control (use / misuse of understanding and predicted things)

1. Causal Chain
Scientific study research is cause to effect relationship, and this phenomenon is known as causal chain.

3. What is Knowledge?
In simple terms the claim about truth backed by evidence is called knowledge.
Other definition can be as to understand, to predict and to use any information is called knowledge or
creation of knowledge
Something that is certainly true is called knowledge.

4. Evidence Sources
1. Revelation / Authority
It’s a faith based truth, expert’s knowledge, linked with religion. We believe or obey someone’s words
to be true on the basis of truth, values, trust and knowledge.
Now the question is why we trust people. So below are some characteristic due to which we trust
people

2. Logic / Philosophy
To infer an unknown from the known is term as logic. Logic is used in both religion and science. As an
example
If A = B
&B=C
Then A = C
This is what you call a logic

3. Scientific Method
Scientific method is termed as Empiricism; it means the true knowledge is based on experiments /
evidence. The concept of seeing is believing implies here. In scientific method we have

1. Factual Evidence (based on experiments)


2. Observations (Observe or do measurements by seeing)
The empirical factual observation is scientific method / science.

So by studding all above terms, we can say that

Research Knowledge
It is an activity It is a product of research

5. Why You Should Do Research


1. Skeptical Attitude
Research should give you the attitude to be skeptical and accept real world scenarios

2. Theory & Practice (Informed Decisions)


One should have knowledge of Informed EBD decisions. Others should be evidence based decisions

3. Consultancy
You will be able to have healthy discussion during any consultancy process / method. To understand
consultancy; research is important.

4. Higher Order Research Skills


Research provide higher order skills for further studies
