The Islamic Arts Festival marks its twenty-fourth edition having established a creative and remarkable status. It
has gained profound experience in adapting arts to serve and guard aesthetics values. Through its renewed spirit,
the festival embarks on translating the real and the imagined together and presenting them in artworks that vary
between the traditional and the contemporary, and sometimes merge the two to present a new modern vision.

event over the past years and to follow the traces of a global creative scene gathering in Sharjah. As the festival
holds an important place in the global art scene, it owes its progress to the generous sponsorship of His Highness
Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates, the Ruler
of Sharjah, may God protect him. This sponsorship is based on His Highness’s belief in the importance of supporting
culture and arts.
The twenty-fourth edition proudly presents a set of art installations that draw on this year’s theme “Gradate” to
ensure that the festival hosts an integrated art exhibition. Some artworks are inspired by historical and heritage
contexts, while others are based on emotional, existential and spatial contexts. All of them strive to translate the
festival’s theme into multiple visions.
At the current edition, we are aesthetically presented with a group of meticulously executed artworks by 56 artists
from different countries of the world. The festival calls the viewers into a state of contemplation, whereas other
installations are interactive works that invite the viewer to a journey of research and exploration in the meanings
hidden in the details.
The Islamic Arts Festival has hosted more than 50 countries from around the world over the past 24 years. It has
opened up to wide vistas of diversity, which enabled it to restore forgotten aspects of the authentic Islamic arts that
date back hundreds of years. The Islamic arts presented in the festival over the years include architecture, decora-
tions, jewelry, ceramics, textiles and other art installations. The festival is an opportunity for us to learn about a se-
ries of artistic practices creatively handled by hundreds of international artists. In addition, the festival has renewed
Islamic arts by keeping pace with modern development, as evident in the artworks displayed for us to see and savor.

His Excellency Abdullah Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the
Department of Culture in Sharjah, and Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer,
Director of the Directorate of Cultural Affairs at the Department of Culture,
and the Director of Islamic Arts Festival, were briefed on the preparations of
the twenty-fourth edition of SIAF at the Sharjah Art Museum,
in addition to other sites.
