The Bali G20 Summit is the seventeenth meeting of the Group of Twenty (G20). The summit has been
held in Bali, Indonesia, in 2022. The Indonesian presidency will take place from 1 December 2021
until the Summit in the fourth quarter of 2022. The ceremony of accepting the position was carried out
by Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi to the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo at
the closing of the Rome 2021 G20 Summit.
Background event
The Indonesian presidency was actually due to be held in 2023. However, due to Indonesia's
leadership of ASEAN, a significant regional organization, Indonesia then requested the Government of
India to exchange the presidency for 2022. India has been barred from holding the presidency in 2023,
so Indonesia can become president host of the 2022 presidency. The Indonesian presidency begins on
December 1, 2021, following the transition of the presidency from Italian Prime Minister Mario
Draghi to Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the closing of the Rome 2021 G20 Summit.
