Aspects of vocabulary and grammar is an important aspect in supporting the language skills

of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Of the four language skills can be grouped into
the receptive skills and productive capabilities. Although both these abilities (receptive and
productive) has an important role to support the ability to communicate, but when
communicating with others will be more visible than its productive capacity. In case this is
the speech that should be owned by the learner. This is because speech requires a mastery of
the various elements of language including vocabulary, grammar, sentence patterns, etc. as
well as the elements outside the language itself such as culture, way of thinking, customs and
others. For the Japanese language learners in the activities of speaking, vocabulary penguaaan
have an important role. To master the Japanese language vocabulary is not enough just to
know how to read, write, or meaning, but also must understand how to use the vocabulary.
Given the importance of mastering Japanese vocabulary in spoken language, it is estimated
there is a correlation between mastery of Japanese vocabulary with the ability to speak. This
research is the correlation which describes the relationship between the mastery of
vocabulary with the ability to speak Japanese. The sample in this study were all high school
students in grade XI Language School 1 Purwareja Klampok Banjarnegara. To obtain the
data in this study used the method of documentation and test methods. Documentation of
methods used to retrieve data about the names and numbers of students who were
respondents in the study. Test method is used to retrieve data in the form of mastery of the
vocabulary and the ability to speak Japanese students. Analysis of test results showed that the
results of calculations using formula Product Moment Correlation is 0.695 greater than the
value of criticism Product Moment r is 0.339 at 95% confidence level. This suggests that
there is a correlation between mastery of vocabulary and the ability to speak Japanese
language class XI student SMA Negeri 1 Purwareja Klampok Banjarnegara.
