Vidal Sassoon: The Revolution of Modern Hairdressing

Vidal Sassoon was born on January 17, 1928, in London, into a family of Jewish
descent. His childhood was marked by adversity, as he lost his father at an early age
and was sent to an orphanage. However, his passion for hairdressing emerged at a
young age, and by the age of 14, he was already learning the trade after his mother
returned and sent him to a hair salon because she had a dream of him pursuing such a
profession.

Sassoon famously said, "If I'm going to be a hairdresser, I'm going to be the best." His
focus centered on simplicity and geometry, creating precise and cutting-edge haircuts
that are still used today, such as the bob haircut.

In 1960, Sassoon opened his own beauty salon in London. It was at this time that he
introduced his famous "bob cut," a hairstyle characterized by its simplicity and elegance.
The bob cut became a symbol of the fashion of the era and attracted famous clients
such as Mary Quant and Twiggy.

Sassoon also became an influential figure in the fashion industry as a whole,

collaborating with renowned designers and participating in fashion shows. His focus on
geometry and precision influenced how clothing and hairstyles were designed during
that time.

In addition to his work in beauty salons and fashion, Vidal Sassoon launched his own
line of hair products, including the iconic shampoo and conditioner. His brand became
synonymous with quality and style.

Vidal Sassoon is considered the father of modern hairdressing, often referred to as

"Scissorhands" due to his precision in hair cutting.

His contribution to the revolution of modern hairdressing and his influence on fashion
make him a enduring icon in the history of beauty. Vidal Sassoon passed away in May
2012, but his legacy lives on in every haircut and in every beauty salon that bears his
name.
