Assalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb.

The honorable all the juries.

Dear my friends who participate in this speech contest.
My lovely brothers and sisters.

First of all, all praises to Allah who gives us this beatiful life and guides us always.
Secondly, sholawat and salam always be delivered to our prophet Muhammad SAW, who had brought
us from the darkness to this bright modern era, that we lived today.

Thank you for giving me time and opportunity, I am standing up in front of you all.
Ladies and gentlemen.
Good morning. I’m Lailatuz Zazkia El., from MA Unggulan Al Anwari. Today, I would like to deliver
my speech about “ The urgency of religious moderation to maintain Bhineka Tunggal Ika”.

Ladies and gentlemen.

Indonesia is a unitary country which full of diversity. Consist of cultural, ethnic and religious diversity.
This diversity makes Indonesia a unique and interesting country. While, on the other hand, if it is not
maintained and managed properly, it can be a potential source of conflict, that can undermine the
country's philosophy, Bhineka Tunggal Ika – Unity in Diversity.

Ladies and gentlemen.

Then, how can we achieve religious moderation to maintain our principle of Bhineka Tunggal Ika? There
are two answers. The first, we must be a wasatiyah ummah, who always in the middle. People who are
moderate and not excessive. It has been explained in the Qur'an surah Al-Baqarah 143.
Then, the way to achieve the second religious moderation is to be tasamuh or tolerance. That is mutual
respect and respect each other. More specifically, religious differences. So, where is the limit for
tolerance in religion? The answer is in the Qur’an surah Al – Kafirun 4 (fourth ayah).
ࣖ ‫لَ ُك ْم ِد ْينُ ُك ْم َول َِي ِدي ِْن‬
“For you your religion and for me my religion.”

Ladies and gentlemen.

That's all my speech today.
In conclusion, we are as Muslims must carry out two principles of religious moderation. The first is, we
must be a wasatiyyah ummah, a middle ummah, a moderate ummah and not excessive.
The second, we must be tolerant, wherever, whenever and to anyone to create a peaceful country.
Baldatun toyyibatun warobbun Ghofur.
