STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Msc in Climate Change and policy, University of Bristol
Climate change is a long-term change in the average weather patterns that have come to define
Earth’s local, regional and global climates. These changes have a broad range of observed effects
that are synonymous with the term. Climate change experts are required to evaluate scientific
data and research about the climate, they can also predict the future climate conditions. The
climatologists or the climate change analysts are in demand because they can drive changes in
the environment and bring sustainable transformation in the surroundings.
My interest in this subject grew due to the fact that it ties the industry with science and it
prepares students for much more than a career in a single industry. At the initial stage I found my
passion in geography which made me pursue my Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in geography from
University of Calcutta. There by studying Climatology, Hydrology, Statistics, Geomorphology,
Oceanography, Soil Geography, GIS and Remote Sensing, Climate change and Economic
Geography grew my enthusiasm for studying climate change. Consequently for the last 2 years
completing 4 semesters I have kept 7.0 CGPA.
Apart from this I am also familiar with using instruments such as prismatic compass, dumpy
level, theodolite, hygrometer, barometer and refractometer. Side by side I have also completed a
fieldwork on one of the eminent cities of India named Ranchi. The field survey demonstrated the
household condition, social economic structure, climatic condition, demographic attributes, Road
morphology and the lack of job opportunities. The field survey helped me to understand
Geography in a broad scheme, because I could connect with a lot of people, from literate to
illiterate, from professional to unprofessional, and from poor to rich. The field survey involved
micro level study so it includes household survey, market survey, health survey, traffic survey,
educational survey, police station survey, religious survey and tourist survey. The field work was
indeed an eye-opener for me where I was able to know about societal issues and people's
problems.
Geography doesn't only include earth and its atmosphere and environment it also includes new
development of technologies and satellites. As I wanted to explore more about geography, so I
have completed a course of GIS from Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) which is a part
of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and a course of GNSS, GIS and remote sensing
from Integrated Institute for Advanced Research and Information (IIARI), Kolkata . I'm familiar
with QGIS, operating drones, digitizing maps and operating GPS.
Apart from only being involved in studies I have engaged in different co-curricular activities
such as dance music, modeling (beauty pageants) and painting. From being under confident
throughout 16 years I found my passion in beauty pageants and thereby in the year 2019 I won
the title of Miss Teen Bengal, in 2022 I was the finalist of the state beauty pageant Miss India
TGPC and in 2023 I was the finalist of Miss Queen Cosmos India. I believe that I am a pageant
girl who speaks with confidence and courage and aspires to inspire millions of youngsters
worldwide and dream to educate underprivileged children. Other than just being a pageant girl I
am also a classical and a contemporary dancer and
University Of Bristol

I've been learning dance since the age of 3 and also been awarded as the best dancer by Sonar
Bangla TV and secured my position in many other dance reality shows of the country. In the year
2020 I was also the semifinalist of Dance Bangla Dance. Therefore, dance is my favourite form
of art that heals my heart and it is the source of escape from reality.
I'm a self-driven person who believes that resilience and determination can drive someone
through the path of success. As I explained previously that I dream to help underprivileged
children so last year I decided to help young boys of "Kamakhya balak ashram " and young girls
of "Pranab Kanya ashram " under my capabilities , I could serve them with foods , clothes and
books and spend quality time with them . I'm also a member of the NSS unit in my college so
this month I have planted over 20 trees and made people aware of deforestation due to road
construction and unwanted human greed . As a Geography student it's my foremost duty to
protect the environment and to spread awareness among people so that all of us can come up and
hope for a better future, because I believe a small change towards nature can make a big impact
in society.
Bristol is a port city and was named as the first European Green Capital. I have always looked
forward to studying here because it's a city with creative industries and technological
advancements. Apart from being advanced in research and technology the city also focuses on its
environment and culture, meanwhile it has more than 4,500 species of plants in the Botanical
Garden.
The University of Bristol has always been my dream institution because they provide students
with the best education not only in UK but also across the world. I think MSc in Climate Change
and Policy is the best fit for me because I always had an interest in environmental geography and
Climatology and I dream to become an Environmental Analyst in my future. Since, this
programme is provided by the School of Geographical sciences which ranks first for
"Geographical and environmental studies "in UK, therefore it would help me to learn
professional skills, communication and project work along with presentation which would
benefit me to carry my own research project further. Apart from this, University of Bristol also
ensures to prepare their students for better employment opportunities and industry ready. The
University also aims to contribute to the global body of knowledge about sustainability and as
I'm a nature lover and I love to work for the environment and would feel privileged to be a part
of such an institution where sustainability is a core competency of education.
I sincerely hope that my goals align with your perception of me as a bright student. I want to
encourage hard work, and contribute to your institute.
Regards,
