Research Abstract:

Food courts caters to a diverse range of students, faculty members, staff, and
visitors of the university. Food court services give an opportunity to talk and
interact with each other in a separate environment which can provide
entertainment along with quality food and a suitable environment for working
and studying. Therefore, the design criteria for outdoor food courts were studied,
which will be focused on in the research in terms of developing educational
facilities with technology and sustainability according to Egypt’s 2030 plan.

Location: Ahram Canadian University, Banks District - 4th Industrial Zone, 6

October City, 12451, Cairo, 6th October EG

Target groups: parents, students, Faculty members.

Research objective:

 Access to a proposed model for designing outdoor food courts in Egyptian

universities by studying interior design standards and linking them to the
exterior design and site coordination to achieve integrated design efficiency.
(linking architectural and interior design)

Research Problem:

 The research problem lies in current design of the food court, which needs
to be updated and restructured to connect the interior design with the
external structure arena in the food court.
 This clarifies the extent of its impact on Egypt’s 20-30 plan.
Research Importance:

 Studying the interior design standards of the outdoor food courts and
linking it to the site layout to achieve the best user experience.

Research hypothesis:

 Achieving a sustainable design, in addition to technological intervention to

achieve a contemporary design. (to be changed)

Scientific research methodology:

 The scientific research method can be defined as: “a set of special tools,
methods, and techniques, which are used in examining discovered
knowledge and phenomena, or it is a completion of some theories and
information, and this depends on the compilation of some confirmations,
and they must be measurable and deducible.”

 Inductive approach: A study on food courts and knowledge of the

foundations of planning and designing food courts.

 Deductive approach: Through it, social, economic, planning, architectural

and environmental factors will be accessed to evaluate food courts.
