Abstract

This research is designed determine the level of mental health along with depression,
anxiety and stress. It also determined the relationship between the level of mental health and
student’s academic performance. The study used a quantitative research method, particularly
descriptive research design. The study was conducted at the Divine Word College of Bangued,
College Department. A total of two hundred forty-one (241) respondents were randomly selected
across year levels. The researcher used questionnaire as a survey instrument. The questionnaire
was adopted from Lim et al. (2022) which has a reliability coefficient of .92. The Cronbach’s
Alpha value of 82% or higher is considered “acceptable”. Results revealed that amidst of many
challenges and mental health problems, students are able to manage their emotional conditions
separately from academic activities. In addition, anxiety is a major factor in mental health issues
among students from the other components such as depression and stress. The mental health of
the students and their academic performances was not greatly affected. Other than that, it only
proves that even the students are mentally and emotionally struggling, they can cope up to
maintain a good grade. On the other hand, there is a significant relationship between the level of
mental health in terms of depression and academic performance. While stress and anxiety have
no significant relationship to academic performances of the students. Based on the gathered data,
it is concluded that the school should always identify the supportive and preventive measures to
decline the severity of the mental health issues of students in the school. It is advisable to
students to maintain a healthy lifestyle and keep on socializing to neglect the arousal of mental
health problems.
